Daily Bible Reading “A Foolish Woman” (Proverbs 9:13-18)

A Foolish Woman

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 9:13-18. In this lesson, we learn about Lady Folly. She is a foolish woman who is loud, naive, and lacks knowledge. She sits at the door of her house, or on a bench in the great places of the city, and calls out to those who pass by.

Those who are naive go in, but those who are more thoughtful, she says to them, “Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”

They don’t know that the dead are there; and that her guests end up in the depths of hell.

The enemy puts these kinds of people on our path to try to trip us up and cause us to turn away from the Lord and go after our own selfish desires.

We have to be on guard against such temptations. They lead to death and destruction. That is the enemy’s goal to kill, steal and destroy us. He wants to ruin our reputations and use his tactics to destroy us. We have to resist the temptations that he puts before us.

The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that with every temptation God makes a way for us to escape. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

When you are being tempted, look for a way to escape the temptation.

As women, it is important that we make sure we can’t be classified as a foolish woman.

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 9:13-18

13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.
14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:
16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

Things to think about:

  • What are some of the characteristics of a foolish woman?
  • What kinds of people are taken in by her?
  • What are the end results for those she entices?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we learn about Lady Folly in this Scripture help us to recognize her characteristics. Help us not to be enticed by her cunning ways. Help us to not take up her habits. Help us to use wisdom in dealing with people who are like this. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “The Wise Listen to Advice” (Proverbs 12:12-16)

Proverbs 12 The Wise Listen to AdviceThe Wise Listen to Advice

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 12:12-16. In this Scripture we are reminded that the wicked desire the snare of evil men: but the root of the righteous yields fruit.

We can choose the way of the wicked and end up in some sort of trouble or we can choose the way of the righteous and bare good fruit.

The wicked is caught by the transgression of his lips: but the righteous will depart from trouble.

A person will be satisfied with good by the fruit of their mouth: and the dealing of a person’s hands will be returned to to them.

The way the foolish seems right to them: but the wise listen to advice.

A fool’s anger is always known: but a cautious man conceals shame.

Have you ever known someone who refused to listen to any advice that you tried to give them? They want to do things their own way even though you warn them that they are going to get in trouble. After a while you have to let people learn for themselves if they refuse to take advice or instruction.

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 12:12-16

12 The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.
13 The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.
14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.
15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
16 A fool’s wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.

Things to think about:

  •  What are some of the differences listed in this Scripture between a wise person and a foolish person?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in the book of Proverbs we see the differences between a wise person and a foolish person. Help us to choose to be wise and not foolish. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
