Daily Bible Reading “Wise Women” (Proverbs 14:1-14)

Proverbs 14 1 A Wise Woman Build Her HouseWise Women

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 14:1-14. In this Scripture, we are reminded that every wise woman builds her house: but a foolish woman tears her house down.

As women we can either build up our house and the people who live in our home or we can tear them down. Many times it is up to the woman to set the tone for the home. Haven’t you heard the saying, “If mama is happy then everybody is happy, and if mama isn’t happy then nobody is happy?” This statement is true in a lot of ways.

Many of the Scriptures in the book of Proverbs teach us how to discern the people we should hang around. It can help us to know who we should choose for our best friends.

Those who walk in uprightness fear the LORD: but those who are perverse in their ways despise Him.

A rod of pride is in the mouth of the foolish person: but the lips of the wise will preserve them.

Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will tell lies.

A scorner seeks wisdom, and doesn’t find it: but knowledge is easy to those who understand.

It is best to leave the presence of a foolish person, when you don’t perceive knowledge in their mouth.

The wisdom of the prudent person is to understand their way: but the folly of fools is deceit.

Foolish people mock sin: but the righteous person finds favor.

The heart knows its own bitterness; and a stranger does not inter-meddle with their joy.

The house of the wicked will be overthrown: but the sanctuary of the upright will flourish.

Verse 12 is one of my favorite verses from this passage of Scripture, “There is a way which seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Sometimes we choose ways that seem right to us at the moment, but in the end they lead to destruction. We need to ask God for His leadership, guidance, and direction in our lives. Only He can help us to make the right choices.

Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that humor is heaviness.

The backslider in heart will be filled with their own ways: and a good person will satisfy themselves.

These Scriptures may also help us to see some of our own short comings. If you notice something in these Scriptures that you need help with, now would be a good time to pray and ask God to forgive you, and to help you do away with those things in your life.

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 14:1-14

1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.
3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.
6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.
7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.
9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.
10 The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.
11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.
14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

Things to think about:

  • What are some ways that a good woman can build her house?
  • What are some characteristics of the foolish mentioned in this Scripture?
  • What are the characteristics of the wise mentioned in this Scripture?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read and study this Scripture in Proverbs help us to learn the difference between the wise person and the ways of those who are foolish. Give us discernment and help us to know who to associate with and who to avoid. Help us to make wise decisions. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “The Wise Listen to Advice” (Proverbs 12:12-16)

The Wise Listen to Advice

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 12:12-16. In this Scripture, we are reminded that we can choose the way of the wicked and end up in trouble, entrapped by the snares of evil people, or we can choose the way of the righteous and produce good fruit.

The wicked person is caught by the transgression of his lips. They will usually end up telling on their self if they have done something wrong. But a righteous person will try to stay away from trouble.

A person will be satisfied with good by the fruit of their mouth: and the dealing of a person’s hands will be returned to them.

The way a foolish person seems right to them. They refuse to listen to advice. But the person who is wise will listen to advice and even seeks it.

A fool’s anger is always recognized. They don’t care who is around or what they say when they get angry. But a cautious person conceals their shame. They don’t spout out all of their feelings in front of everybody. They keep their disappointments to their self.

Have you ever known someone who refused to listen to any advice that you tried to give them? They want to do things their own way even though you warn them that they are going to get in trouble. After a while you have to let people learn for themselves if they refuse to take advice or listen to instruction.

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 12:12-16

12 The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.
13 The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.
14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.
15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
16 A fool’s wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.

Things to think about:

  •  What are some of the differences listed in this Scripture between a wise person and a foolish person?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in the book of Proverbs we see the differences between a wise person and a foolish person. Help us to choose to be wise and not foolish. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “The Blessing of the LORD Enriches Lives” (Proverbs 10:18-22)

The Blessing of the LORD Enriches Lives

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 10:18-22. This Scripture tells us that those who conceal hatred with lying lips, and those who whisper words of slander, are foolish. The abundance of words causes sin: but those who learn to control their mouth are wise. Do you consider yourself to be wise?

The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver: but the heart of the wicked is worthless. The words of the righteous teach many: but fools die because they lack wisdom.

The blessing of the LORD enriches the lives of those who choose to follow Him, and He adds no hardship with it.

We can choose to use our words for good or for evil. Those who are wicked tell evil lies about other people. They run their mouth and speak profanely. Sometimes people act like they think it makes them sound important when they talk trash, but it really shows their lack of knowledge.

Even as believers we can find ourselves griping and complaining and using our mouth to spread gossip if we don’t keep a check on our language and our attitudes.

As believers, we should use our mouth to speak words of encouragement to others. We should use our mouth to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to this lost and dying world.

We can use Scripture to combat the enemy when he attacks us with negative thoughts. We need to fill our spirits up with enough good until it flows out of our mouths and floods out the bad.

One of my favorite Scriptures that reminds me to keep a check my thought process is Philippians 4:8 which says, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

We can use this Scripture as a measure and if our thoughts don’t measure up to this Scripture then we need to cast them aside. We may even have to go so far as to say no or leave me alone when those negative thoughts come our way. It helps. Believe me, I’ve tried it.

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 10:18-22

18 He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.
19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

Things to think about:

  • In what ways can we use our mouths for good?
  • Who uses their mouth for evil?
  • How can we gain control over our speech?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in Proverbs we see the difference between the way wicked people speak and the way righteous people should use their mouths for good. Help us to keep a guard on our lips and speak good and not evil. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Be Wise” (Proverbs 8:32-36)

Be Wise

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 8:32-36. In this Scripture, we find a call to listen. Not only to listen, but to hear and seek. Seek wisdom and seek the LORD.

Listen to me, you children: blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and don’t refuse it.

Blessed is the man who hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

Whoever finds me finds life, and will obtain favor from the LORD. But those who sin against me wrongs their own soul: all those who hate me love death.

We can look at this two ways. First, as those who find wisdom find life and those who hate instruction find the path to destruction. Do you seek wisdom?

Secondly, and most importantly, as God speaking and reminding us that those who seek Him and find Him through a relationship with His son, Jesus Christ, will have life eternal. But, those who hate Him will suffer eternal death. Have you accepted Jesus as your Savior?

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 8:32-36

32 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.
33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.
34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.
36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

Things to think about:

  • What are we called to do in this Scripture?
  • What do we find if we seek?
  • What is the result of not seeking wisdom?
  • What is the result for those who refuse Jesus as their Savior?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture we realize that we should be seeking wisdom from above. We should be seeking Jesus. Help us to find wisdom, but more importantly help us to find a lasting eternal relationship with You through Your Son, Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Bible Verse to Journal or Memorize:

Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. – Proverbs 8:32
