Daily Bible Reading “A Foolish Woman” (Proverbs 9:13-18)

Proverbs 9 foolishwomanA Foolish Woman

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 9:13-18. Today we learn about Lady Folly. A foolish woman is loud: she is naive, and knows nothing. She sits at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city, and calls out to those who pass by.

Whoever is naive, let him come in here: and as for those who want understanding, she says to him, “Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”

But he doesn’t know that the dead are there; and that her guests end up in the depths of hell.

The enemy puts these kind of people on our path to try to trip us up and cause us to turn away from the Lord and go after our own desires.

We have to be on guard against such temptations. They lead to death and destruction. That is the enemy’s goal to kill, steal and destroy us. He wants to ruin our reputations and use his tactics to destroy us. We have to resist the temptations that he puts before us.

The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:13 with every temptation God makes a way for an escape. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

If you are being tempted, look for a way to escape the temptation.

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 9:13-18

13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.
14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:
16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

Things to think about:

  • What are some of the characteristics of a foolish woman?
  • What kinds of people are taken in by her?
  • What are the end results for those she entices?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we learn about Lady Folly in this Scripture help us to recognize her characteristics. Help us not to be enticed by her cunning ways. Help us to not take up her habits. Help us to use wisdom in dealing with people who are like this. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
