A Prayer for Preservation from Evil
Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 141:1-9. Psalm 141 is a Psalm of David where David cries out to the LORD in prayer. David asks the LORD to accept his prayer as incense and the lifting of his hands as evening sacrifice. He begs God to put a watch over his mouth and guard his lips against speaking evil.
David requests of God to protect his heart from any wicked ways and help him not to practice the evil ways of the wicked. David pours his heart out to God asking Him to protect him from his enemies and let them be caught in their own traps. David may have been afraid, but he prayed to God and trusted God with the outcome of the situation. David had faith in God that He would see him through.
Are you going through a situation in your life that you need to talk to God about? Go to God with an open heart, soul, and mind. God wants to hear from you. God loves you and He can handle whatever problem you have.
Daily Bible Reading:
Psalm 141:1-9
1 [[A Psalm of David.]] LORD, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee.
2 Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
3 Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
4 Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.
5 Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.
6 When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.
7 Our bones are scattered at the grave’s mouth, as when one cutteth and cleaveth wood upon the earth.
8 But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.
9 Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity.
10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets, whilst that I withal escape.
Things to think about:
- Do you ever pray to God in the way David did in this Psalm? How does it make you feel?
- In what ways do you pour out your heart and soul to God?
- Do you ask God for what you really want or do you dance around the subject?
- In what ways can you be more open and honest with God?
Prayer of the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 141 where we see David pours out his heart and soul to You in prayer. Help us to do that as well when we pray. Help us to share with You what we are really feeling in our own body, soul, and mind. Help us to be honest and open with You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

The Book of Psalms: Part 5 Chapters 120-150 by Deborah H. Bateman is the 30th book in the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Psalm 119 has already published in a book called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet. The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.
The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.
This part of the book of Psalms contains fifteen of the Songs of degrees. They were the songs or chants that the people of Israel sang as they journeyed to Jerusalem. It also contains some of the Psalms of David.
The Book of Psalms: Part 5 Chapters 120-150 contains thirty-eight Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
