A Prayer of Moses

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 90:1-17. Psalm 90 is a prayer of Moses. Yes, that Moses, the one-time murdering Egyptian prince, Exodus, Ten-Commandment Moses. Did you know his Praises/Psalms were included in the book of Psalms? Moses was a man of God. God used him to lead His people. Moses started this Psalm acknowledging God as our eternal dwelling place. He reminds the people that even before the world was created God existed.

In Revelation 1:8 God says, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” A thousand years in God’s eyes is like a day, which is hard for us to comprehend.

The Bible tells us that God created man from the dust of the earth and when we die we will return to the earth. Scientists are always studying and trying to find out where man came from. It is amazing to me when you hear a lot of them talk they finally, after going through all their investigation, acknowledge God’s creation of man such as in this article by Francis Collins: A Scientific Basis for God.

Moses talks about the flood and how God destroyed humanity because of their disobedience. Moses questioned God about how long He would pour out His wrath on them. Moses was a great leader and was concerned for the people.

In this life we’ll have trouble. We’ll have to suffer loss and disappointment. Those who aren’t believers don’t have any hope. They turn to all kinds of things to try to deal with the things of this life.

Believers have the hope of the return of Christ and have God to lean on when trouble comes in their lives. Moses saw a lot of trouble in his life and he longed for God to return and shine the beauty of the LORD on them and establish the work of their hands.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 90:1-17

1 [[A Prayer of Moses the man of God.]] Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
3 Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.
4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.
6 In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.
7 For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.
8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.
10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
11 Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.
12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
13 Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.
14 O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.
16 Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.
17 And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

What was Moses’ concern?
In what ways do you relate to Moses’ prayer?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 90, where Moses acknowledged You as being his dwelling place. LORD, we thank You that as believers You are our dwelling place. We have You and the promises of Your Word to hold onto. You give us the strength we need to face the trials of life. Help us to always be grateful to You for Your love and mercy. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

Daily Bible Reading “Song of Moses” (Exodus 15:1-18)

Song of Moses

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Exodus 15. In this scripture is a well-known Biblical prayer called the Song of Moses. It is the first song in the Bible. It is a prayer in the form of a song praising and thanking the Lord for what He did for them.

In chapter 14 the people of Israel were camped between two mountains and were boxed in when Pharaoh’s army came after them. God parted the Red Sea and casts Pharaoh’s men in the sea.

God put them in this situation so he could show them His provision. They were set free from Egypt. Egypt is a picture of the world. We too can be joyous when we are set free from this world and see God’s provision in our lives.

This song is also mentioned in Isaiah 12, Psalm 118 and in Revelation 15. In every one of these situations the people were rescued by God, their deliverer.

Singing a song to God is a wonderful way to praise and worship God. Prayers can be sung to God. Psalms 98:4 says, “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.”

You don’t have to have a beautiful voice to sing to the Lord. He wants you to praise Him anyway. It doesn’t matter where you are you can sing to the Lord anywhere. Singing can be a way of showing thanks to God for what He has done for you.

When you reach out to God by singing and praising Him the Bible says, He inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3). Moses says in verse two, I will prepare him a habitation.

When you are feeling down, just start singing and praising God and your spirit will be lifted, because the Father seeks those who worship him.

Read through this Scripture and notice what it says the LORD is. He is my strength and song, He is my God. He is my father’s God. He is a man of war. He is glorious in power and in holiness. He is great and excellent. He will reign forever.

Even though God is a God of love, He still is a warrior, in that He protects His people from the enemy. This Scripture pictures physically what we have to do in prayer as we war against the wicked spiritual forces in this world.

We need to pray for our families and ask for God to watch over them and protect them every day. Thank God we have Him to go to and pray fervently to intercede for those who are in our world.

Daily Bible Reading:

Exodus 15:1-18

1 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

2 The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

3 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.

4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea.

5 The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone.

6 Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.

7 And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble.

8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea.

9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.

10 Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters.

11 Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?

12 Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.

13 Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation.

14 The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina.

15 Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away.

16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be [as] still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased.

17 Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.

18 The LORD shall reign for ever and ever.

Who do you say that the LORD is to you?
What are some ways we can praise and worship Him?
How do you praise and worship Him?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this scripture that once again shows us how You take care of the people who serve You. We worship and praise You for Your holiness. We are in awe of Your strength, power and might. We love you, LORD. Amen.
