Daily Bible Reading “Love the LORD Your God with All Your Heart” (Deuteronomy 6:1-25)

Love the LORD Your God with All Your Heart

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Deuteronomy 6:1-25. In this Scripture, Moses is talking to the children of Israel, although this speech is ancient, the advice is timeless and quite applicable to our lives today. Moses reminds the Israelites they should love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, and might. This is the greatest commandment. Even though we no longer live under the law, but under grace, we still need to love God in this way.

Moses tells the people these words should be in their hearts. They should teach them to their children and they should talk about them all the time. Moses warned them not to forget God after He blessed them and gave them the Promised Land. We need to be careful of this also. Sometimes when we’re in trouble we grow close to God then, after He answers our prayers and blesses us, we tend to forget about Him.

Moses says God is a jealous God and that they are to have no other gods besides Him. We have to be careful in our lives not to put other things or other people before God. He has blessed us with homes, jobs, and families, but we have to make sure not to put any of them before Him.

How do we get to the point where we love God with all our heart, soul, and might? First of all, we have to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

Then, we need to study the Bible and hide His Word in our hearts so we don’t sin against Him. Teach it to our children, and talk about His Word all the time, just as Moses told the Israelites to do.

We also need to talk to Him daily through prayer. Developing a relationship with God and Jesus is similar to developing a relationship with any other person.

We have to spend time with them, talking and listening to them. Then we will develop a close personal relationship with God.

Daily Bible Reading:

Deuteronomy 6:1-25

1 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:
2 That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
10 And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
11 And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
12 Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
13 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.
14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;
15 (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
16 Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
17 Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.
18 And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,
19 To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.
20 And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?
21 Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh’s bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:
22 And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:
23 And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.
24 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.
25 And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.

Things to think about:

  • How can we apply this Scripture to our lives today?
  • How is your relationship with the LORD?
  • How can studying the Bible daily help us learn more about God and develop a close personal relationship with Him?
  • How can talking and listening to God daily through prayer help our relationship with God?
  • What are some ways we can share the Word of God with your children and grandchildren?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear God,

Thank You for this Scripture which reminds us to love You with all our heart, soul, and might. Help us to do that. Help us to read and study Your Word and to teach it to our children and grandchildren. Help us not to put anything or anybody ahead of You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. We love You, LORD. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “The Love of God” (Romans 5:1-9)

The Love of God

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Romans 5:1-9. In this Scripture, we are told if we have accepted Jesus as our Savior, we are justified by faith and have peace with God through Jesus. Do you have peace with God?

Some of you may not know you didn’t have peace with God. Through Adam’s disobedience to God back in the Garden of Eden sin entered into the world, so we were all born into sin. There is nothing we can do to rationalize our sin. But we don’t have to remain in sin, because God sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sins on the cross.

God, through His grace, gave us the free gift of salvation. All we have to do is believe and receive it. The Scripture says because of this we can glory in our tribulations. Tribulations (trials) bring patience, patience brings experience, and through experience we find hope in the Lord. Do you find it hard to find joy in your tribulations?

Tribulations=Patience=Experience=Hope

The love of God is then in our hearts through the Holy Spirit that God gives to us when we accept Jesus as our Savior. God showed His great love for us by having His Son, Jesus; shed His blood on the cross to cover our sins. Do you know the love of God?

Daily Bible Reading:

Romans 5:1-9

1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Things to think about:

  • Have you been justified by faith to God through His Son, Jesus?
  • Did you realize you could glory in your tribulations?
  • What are the results of tribulations?
  • How do we get the love of God in our hearts?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear God,

We thank You for Your love for us. We thank You for Your Son, Jesus, who died on the cross to cover our sins. We thank You that we can be justified though our faith in Him. We thank You that we can have peace with You, through Jesus. Help us to accept Your gracious gift. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “God Loves Us” ( John 3:16-17)

God Loves Us

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from John 3:16-17. In this Scripture, we are told of the greatest love of all. We can’t possibly imagine how much God loves us. Think about the sacrifice He made when He gave His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for us.

We find this in John 3:16-17, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

For those of you who are parents, can you imagine giving your only son’s life for people you didn’t even have a relationship with? I know this was part of God’s plan, but I hope as we think about it as parents we can see what an awesome sacrifice this was. Both Jesus and God made this sacrifice so we could have eternal life.

There may be some parents who may relate to this better than most of us, those who have lost their children fighting in combat to give freedom to the rest of us. I recently went to a funeral of a soldier that I knew from my hometown. It was so sad for me. I can’t imagine how grieved the parents must have been. I am sure it grieved God’s heart to sacrifice His Son’s life.

God didn’t send His Son into this world to condemn us of our sins, but to save us from our sins. See, God knows us better than anybody and He knew we would never be able to keep the laws of God in our own human nature. So He gave His Son, Jesus, as the sacrifice for our sins.

God showed His love for us, because while we were still sinners He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die for us. Romans 5:8 tell us, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Because of Adam and Eve’s fall, back in the Garden of Eden, we were all born into sin. God acclaimed His love for us by having Christ die for us before we were ever born so He could take our place and pay the price for our sins. Have you accepted this love gift of salvation God provided for you?

Things to think about:

  • Where would we be if it weren’t for Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross?
  • Are you thankful for Jesus’ sacrifice?
  • Do you thank God for loving us so much?
  • Do you share God’s love with others?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear God,

We thank You for this Scripture in the Bible that tells us how much You love us. We realize it was an awesome sacrifice for You to give Your only Son Jesus’ life for our sins. We thank You for the sacrifice You made on our behalf. We thank You for having a plan for us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “God Is Love” (1 John 4:7-21)

God Is Love

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from 1 John 4:7-21. This Scripture talks about how we should love one another because God loves us. If God is in us then we should have love dwelling in us, because God is love.

Love is a fruit of the Spirit and if we are Christians we should have love through the Spirit of God. Those of us who have accepted Jesus as our Savior should have love in our hearts toward one another.

God loves us so much He sent His Son, Jesus, to this world to live and then die on the cross to cover our sins. If we believe and receive Jesus as our Savior, then love dwells in us, because we have the Spirit of God in us.

If you haven’t accepted God, who is love, and He is speaking to you, please seriously consider accepting Him into your heart and life today. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Daily Bible Reading:

1 John 4:7-21

7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
19 We love him, because he first loved us.
20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

Things to think about:

  • Who does the Scripture talk about when it says, “God dwelleth in him, and he in God?”
  • Why does the Scripture say, “Perfect love casts out fear?”
  • Why do we love God?
  • If we are Christians why should we have the love of God in us?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear God,

We thank You that You loved us so much You sent your Son, Jesus, to die for us. Help us to love one another the way You want us to. Help Your love to be perfected in us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. We love You, LORD. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Happy Mother’s Day” (Proverbs 31:10, 28)

Happy Mother’s Day

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is Proverbs 31:10, “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Proverbs 31:28 says, “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” I thought these verses were appropriate for Mother’s Day since it is a day to show honor and appreciation to our mothers for who they are and all they have done for us.

One of the greatest gifts that God gave us, besides the gift of salvation through His Son, is the gift of life and love through our mothers.

Mother’s Day is supposed to be a day of celebration, but for many people, it is a day of remembrance, a day of sadness. As you celebrate Mother’s Day with your family be sensitive to those whose mothers are no longer with them.

Mother’s Day may also be a time of grief for those who have lost children or those who want to have children but haven’t been blessed in that way.

There may be those who are estranged from their children or mothers for one reason or another and so Mother’s Day is sad for them.

Celebrate your mother and enjoy your family, but understand that days like Mother’s Day are hard for some people. Be gentle with them.

My emotions run from one extreme to the other on Mother’s Day and the days surrounding Mother’s Day. Missing my Mama, mother-in-law, and grandmothers are really hard for me since they have all passed away already.

Then there are the feelings of being really blessed to be married to the man God blessed me with as my husband, who loves me unconditionally. We are blessed to have two beautiful daughters, whom we love dearly.

We wondered if we would ever have children. For many years Mother’s Day was hard for me because I wanted children so badly, but had not been blessed with them yet.

We were married eight years and had two miscarriages before we finally had our girls. We are also blessed to have six precious grandchildren who are all special in their own way.

If you were not blessed to be raised in a Christian home with a mother who loved you unconditionally, you can know this kind of love through the unconditional, sacrificial love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

All things considered, Mother’s Day is a good day to celebrate through all the laughter and tears. I am thankful for all the people God placed in my life to mold me and make me into the person I am today. I hope it’s a good day for you and your family. I wish you all a Happy Mother’s Day. I love you. May God bless you!

Things to think about:

  • What is your best childhood memory of your mother?
  • What is one word that you would use to describe your mother?
  • What is the most important thing that your mother taught you?
  • What are you most grateful for concerning your mother?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for this day to honor the mothers in our lives. Help us to show our love and gratitude for our mothers. Comfort those who have lost their mothers with sweet memories today. We also ask that you comfort those who wish to be mothers, but haven’t been blessed with children yet. Thank you for the gift of children and grandchildren. Thank you for our mothers. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
