Daily Bible Reading “Scriptures Relating to an Eclipse” (Psalm 19:1 and other Scriptures)

 Scriptures Relating to an Eclipse

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 19:1 and many other Scriptures relating to the heavens and the eclipse of the sun and moon. The eclipse of August 21, 2017 will stretch across the United States from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, SC. The last total eclipse in the US was 99 years ago on June 8, 1918. The next eclipse in the US is expected April 8, 2024 which will cross from east to west, along with the 2017 eclipse which will cross for west to east will create an “X” across the United States. There are those who believe that a solar eclipse may have specific meanings. Some believe it is a sign of judgment from God. Some believe there are certain statistics that line up with biblical prophecy. Curious about what the Bible had to say about the eclipse I discovered these Scriptures that relate.

Some people believe that Jesus was born around or during the time of an eclipse and the Scriptures indicate that His return will be around or during the time of an eclipse.

Psalm 19:1 – The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

Isaiah 13:10 – For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

Ezekiel 32:7 – And when I shall put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light.

Joel 2:10-11 – The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining: And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?

Joel 2:31 – The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

Joel 3:15 – The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.

Amos 8:9 – And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:

Proverbs 8:27 – When he established the heavens, I was there; when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,

Matthew 24:29 – Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Mark 13:24-25 – But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.

Luke 21:25-27 – And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

Revelation 6:12-13 – And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

Revelation 8:12-13 – And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise. And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!

I am not trying to say that the eclipse has anything to do with the coming of the Lord. The Scriptures say nobody knows the day or the hour of His return.

But, as you experience the eclipse of 2017, I suggest you search the Scriptures for yourself to see what the significance of an eclipse may have on biblical prophecy or the signs and wonders of God. After all, God created the heavens and the earth. He has total control of how they operate and what the future holds for humanity and for the earth.

Things to think about:

  • What similarities of an eclipse do you find in these Scriptures?
  • What most intrigues you about an eclipse?
  • How can we use events like an eclipse as an opportunity to share God’s Word?
  • How can we prepare for the return of the Lord?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We acknowledge You as the creator of heaven and earth. We thank You for the beauty of Your creation. We pray that You will help us to search the Scriptures and look for signs of the return of the Lord. Help us to prepare our hearts and to share the Gospel message with others so they too can know You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Let Your Light Shine in the Darkness” (Proverbs 4:14-19)

Let Your Light Shine in the Darkness

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 4:14-19. Solomon warns his son saying, “Don’t enter into the path of the wicked, and don’t go in the way of evil men. Avoid it, don’t pass by it, turn from it, and pass away.”

The wicked don’t sleep, until they have gotten into some kind of mischief; and their sleep is taken away, and they cause someone to fall. They eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence. It’s as if they live and breathe to get into trouble.

The path of the righteous is like a shining light that shines brighter every day.

The way of the wicked is like someone stumbling around in the night: they have no idea what will cause them to stumble.

Solomon warns his son not to walk in the way of the wicked. He tells him to do whatever he has to do to keep from going down that path. He explains to him how those who are wicked act and think.

We must be on guard at every turn so that the enemy doesn’t cause us to stray. The enemy will try to tempt us to turn away from God and to go down the path of the wicked.

As believers, we are to let our light shine in the darkness of this world. We are to share the light of God’s Word with those who haven’t heard it. By doing so we may be able to help some of those who have trodden down the path of the wicked and lead them to see the light of the LORD.

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 4:14-19

14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

Things to think about:

  • What does Solomon say about the wicked?
  • What does he say about the path of the righteous?
  • What are some things we can do as believers to help shed the light of the LORD in this dark world?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in the book of Proverbs we see Solomon’s warning about walking in the path of the wicked. Help us not to walk in the ways of the wicked, but to let our light shine in this dark world. Guard us from all iniquity and help us to walk on the path of righteousness. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
