Thy Hands Have Made Me
Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 119:73-80. This portion of Scripture from Psalm 119 starts with JOD, the tenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet. If you would like to learn more about the letter JOD, I have included a reference at the bottom of the page. The Psalmist starts by acknowledging God as his creator and thanks Him for fashioning him into who he is. He asks God to give him understanding so he can learn the commandments of God. He declares that those who fear the LORD will be glad when they meet him because he has found hope in the Word of God.
He acknowledges God as a faithful, righteous judge and accepts that God was right in His judgment when He afflicted him. He prays to God asking Him to let him be comforted by the tender mercy and kindness of the words of the LORD. The Psalmist delights in in the law of God.
He asks God to let his proud enemies be ashamed for the unjust way they treated him, because they had no cause. He asks God to help him to have favor with those who fear God and know His testimonies. He prays and asks God to help his heart be established in the word of the LORD, so he will not be ashamed.
Daily Bible Reading:
Psalm 119:73-80
73 JOD. Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.
74 They that fear thee will be glad when they see me; because I have hoped in thy word.
75 I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.
76 Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.
77 Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.
78 Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate in thy precepts.
79 Let those that fear thee turn unto me, and those that have known thy testimonies.
80 Let my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed.
Things to Think About:
- Do you give God credit for making you and forming you into the person you are today?
- Can others tell you love and fear the LORD when they meet you?
- Does God’s tender mercies and kindness comfort you?
- Do you delight in reading and studying the Word of God?
- Do you ask God to give you favor with other believers?
Prayer of the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 119, where the Psalmist acknowledges you as his creator and thanks you for forming his life. LORD, we thank You for creating us and forming us into Your image. Help us to delight in Your word by reading and studying it daily so we can learn more about You and develop a close, personal relationship with You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
