Daily Bible Reading “Let God Be Magnified” (Psalm 70:1-5)

Let God Be Magnified

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 70:1-5.  Psalm 70 is a Psalm of David to the Chief Musician. David reminds God, to hurry and deliver him from his enemies. David wants relief and he wants it now. Have you ever felt this way? I sure have, but God doesn’t work on our time-table.

David asks God to cause those who seek to destroy him to be ashamed and confounded. He asks God to let them be confused and cause them to turn back. David had already prayed to God about these same things, but he wants to make sure God didn’t forget about him. Do you ever do that?

David says, “Let those who seek You rejoice and be glad.” May those who know Your salvation say let God be magnified. We were created to serve God and magnify Him. He created us to be in a relationship with Him and to be His children.

This is exactly the same as Psalm 40. God knows we need to hear things over and over. How often have you heard something and thought “that was so good,” then when someone asks you what it was about, you can’t remember? This is why we need to study God’s Word over and over so we can get His Word planted in our Spirit.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 70:1-5

1 [[To the chief Musician, [A Psalm] of David, to bring to remembrance.]] Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O LORD.
2 Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my hurt.
3 Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame that say, Aha, aha.
4 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.
5 But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying.

Things to think about:

  • In what ways have you ever tried to hurry God?
  • How did trying to rush God to respond help anything?
  • How does God respond to our praises?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 70. David reminds us to praise and magnify You. LORD, so many times we are more concerned about crying out to You for help than we are praising You. Forgive us and help us, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Verse:

let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.

About the book:

The Book of Psalms:Part 3 Chapters 61-90 by Deborah H. Bateman is 28th book in the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Deborah divided The Book of Psalms into five books to make it easier to read and study. Each book contains approximately thirty chapters from the book of Psalms.

Psalm 119 will not be included in The Book of Psalms since Deborah has already published a book about it called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet.

The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

The Book of Psalms: Part 3 Chapters 61-90 contains fifty Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
