I Will Praise Thee

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 138:1-8. Psalm 138 is a Psalm of David where he proclaims that he will praise God with his whole heart. He declares that he will sing and praise God before the gods. David states that he will worship toward the holy temple and praise God for His truth and loving-kindness.

When David cried out to God He answered and strengthened him with strength in his soul. David declares that all the kings of the earth will praise the LORD when they hear the words of the LORD. They will sing praise to the LORD for He is great. Even though the LORD is mighty and powerful, He still has compassion for the lowly, but keeps His distance from the proud.

David knew that even though he may have trouble, God would revive him, and protect him against his enemies. He trusted that the LORD would make right that which concerned him because of His great mercy. David asked the LORD not to forsake him.

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 138:1-8

1 [[A Psalm of David.]] I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.
2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
3 In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.
4 All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O LORD, when they hear the words of thy mouth.
5 Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD.
6 Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.
8 The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.

 

Things to think about:

• In what ways do you praise the LORD with your whole heart as David did?
• In what ways do you worship the LORD?
• How do you trust God to be your protector and provider?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for this Scripture in Psalm 138 where the Psalmist, David, praises and worships You. Help us to praise and worship You with our whole heart, as David did. Help us to trust You to work on our behalf to perfect us according to Your will. Thank You for Your mercy which endures forever. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

This part of the book of Psalms contains fifteen of the Songs of degrees. They were the songs or chants that the people of Israel sang as they journeyed to Jerusalem. It also contains some of the Psalms of David.

The Book of Psalms: Part 5 Chapters 120-150 contains thirty-eight Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
