Daily Bible Reading “Make a Joyful Noise unto God” (Psalm 66:1-20)

Make a Joyful Noise unto God

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 66:1-20. In Psalm 66 the Psalmist exhorts us to worship, praise, and sing to God. He talks about how God takes care of His children by citing the incident when God turned the sea into dry land so they could cross it. What are some ways we can praise and worship God?

The Psalmist talks about how God tries us like silver is tried in the fire. Sometimes we have to go through trials in our life but, with God’s help we come out on the other side of it better than we were before. It may make us stronger and more resilient.

Sometimes God may let us go through some tough times in order to make us better. Make sure to use these times of trial to make yourself better and not bitter by observing what you learn during the tough trials of this life.

The Psalmist talks about giving his offerings to God and paying honor and tribute to God for His goodness and love. This is another way of worshiping and praising God, by showing our appreciation for all He is and all He does for us.

The Psalmist acknowledges if we have sin in our hearts, God won’t hear our prayers. It is important that we keep the lines of communication open with God as believers.

Have you ever felt like your prayers weren’t being heard? If so, do a heart check. We need to make sure we repent of our sins and ask God to forgive us so He will hear our prayers. God doesn’t do this to punish us but wants us to get our hearts and lives right with Him.

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 66:1-20

1 [[To the chief Musician, A Song [or] Psalm.]] Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:
2 Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.
3 Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.
4 All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.
5 Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men.
6 He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the flood on foot: there did we rejoice in him.
7 He ruleth by his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.
8 O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard:
9 Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.
10 For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
11 Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins.
12 Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.
13 I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows,
14 Which my lips have uttered, and my mouth hath spoken, when I was in trouble.
15 I will offer unto thee burnt sacrifices of fatlings, with the incense of rams; I will offer bullocks with goats. Selah.
16 Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.
17 I cried unto him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue.
18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:
19 But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.
20 Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.

 

Things to think about:

  • How do you give praise and honor to God?
  • Do you give offerings to God in appreciation for who He is and what He has done for you?
  • Have you kept your commitments to God?
  • Do you have iniquity (sin) in your heart? If so, ask God to forgive you and cleanse your heart so your prayers won’t be hindered.

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture where we are reminded to worship, praise, and glorify You. We pray You will forgive us of our sins and help us to keep the lines of communication open with You. Help us to keep the commitments we have made to You. Help us not to hold iniquity in our hearts. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Praise Waits for Thee” (Psalm 65:1-13)

Praise Waits for Thee

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 65:1-13. Psalm 65 is a Psalm of David, to the Chief Musician. David praises and worships God in silence. Have you ever praised and worshiped God in silence? David confesses his sin to God, and knows God will cleanse him from his sin. David realizes he is blessed to be chosen by God.

David then goes into an exhortation of the greatness of God. He even demonstrates how the earth rejoices at God’s marvelous work. He talks of God’s creation from the mountains to the sea and the meadows.

I love looking at the world which God created and we get to enjoy. My favorite place is the beach. I love the sound of the waves and looking at the vast horizon.

I love to walk outside and start thanking God for everything I see. Thank You for the flowers, thank You for the trees, thank You for the grass, thank You for the birds, on and on we can go.

I call this my Thank You Jesus prayer. Sometimes I do it with my youngest granddaughter. Sometimes when we are riding in the car we will sing songs and do our Thank You Jesus prayer. We’ll name everybody we know to thank Him for and then we thank Him for the flowers, trees, birds, house, car, everything we can think of to say thank You. God has truly blessed us and we have so much for which to be thankful.

When I look at the vastness of His creation, I stand in awe of His power and greatness. How great is God to be able to speak it all into existence. Take some time today to stop and think about the greatness of God and all He means to you. Think of all the things He has done for you. Think of everything and everybody He has placed in your life. You don’t even have to say anything. Just enjoy being in His presence and show your gratitude to God.

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 65:1-13

1 [[To the chief Musician, A Psalm and Song of David.]] Praise waiteth for thee, O God, in Sion: and unto thee shall the vow be performed.
2 O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.
3 Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away.
4 Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.
5 By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea:
6 Which by his strength setteth fast the mountains; being girded with power:
7 Which stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people.
8 They also that dwell in the uttermost parts are afraid at thy tokens: thou makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice.
9 Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.
10 Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof.
11 Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness.

13 The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.

 

Things to think about:

  • How does it make you feel to think of the greatness of God?
  • When you look at all God created how do you feel?
  • When you think about how much God loves you, how do you feel?
  • What are some ways we can show God we are grateful for who He is and all He has done?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 65. David praises You in silence. He is in awe of Your greatness and power. He talks about the beauty of Your creation. Help us to rever You and worship You in all Your glory, power and majesty. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “My Soul Thirsts for Thee” (Psalm 63:1-11)

My Soul Thirsts for Thee

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 63:1-11. Psalm 63 is a Psalm of David. It was written when he was in the wilderness of Judah. David declares that he’ll seek God early in the morning because his soul thirsts for God. Have you ever been really thirsty on a hot, dry day? David had a deep longing in his soul to spend time with God. Do you thirst for Him?

David longs to see God’s power and glory. He praises God for His loving kindness. David proclaims that he’ll praise and worship God as long as he lives because his soul is satisfied in God. Not only does David seek God in the morning, but he also meditates on God at night while lying in his bed.

Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night and have trouble falling back to sleep? I find when this happens, if I fix my thoughts on God, start to pray and talk to Him, I will relax and fall back to sleep, because my soul is satisfied.

David loves God. He has been David’s helper. God has protected him from the enemy and kept him close, under the shadow of His wings. David feels safe. David says God holds him up with His right hand.

David speaks of his enemies saying they’ll be destroyed and those who tell lies about him will be stopped. Even among all the threats for his life and the turmoil of being constantly sought by the enemy David declares that he will rejoice in God all the days of his life. Do you rejoice in God regardless of your circumstances?

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 63:1-11

1 [[A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.]] O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
10 They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

 

Things to think about:

  • Does your soul long to spend time with God? How do you satisfy that longing?
  • Do you seek him both in the morning and at night? How can we make a habit of seeking God’s face morning and night?
  • How does spending time with God satisfy the longing in your soul?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 63. David says he thirsts for You. His soul longs to spend time with You. He seeks You early in the morning and at night. He enjoys spending time with You. Help us to take time out of our busy schedules to spend time with You. Help us to realize there is a longing in our souls that only You can fill. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “God is My Rock and My Salvation” (Psalm 62:1-12)

God is My Rock and My Salvation

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 62:1-12. Psalm 62 is a Psalm of David to the Chief Musician. David says his soul waits on God, from Him comes his salvation.

David declares that God is the rock of his strength. God is his salvation. God is his glory. God is his refuge, and his defense, therefore he will not be moved.

David says his soul waits on the LORD because his expectation is from Him. David encourages us to put our trust in God at all times. He tells us to pour our hearts out to God. He reminds us that God is our refuge.

David warns us about trusting in our wealth. He tells us that power belongs to God. David reminds us that God is a merciful God and rewards every man according to his work.

When I used to work in the corporate world I trusted more in my job to supply my needs than God. When I lost my job, I learned to trust God more to supply my needs. I learned that God could supply my needs any way He chooses. For the most part, he has used my husband to supply my needs since that time. I had to learn to accept that as God’s provision for me. In what ways does God supply your needs?

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 62:1-12

1 [[To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David.]] Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.
2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.
3 How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.
4 They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.
5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

Things to think about:

  • In what ways is God your refuge and your defense?
  • How can we learn to trust in God at all times?
  • Have you accepted God as your rock and your salvation as David did? If so, describe your experience.

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 62. You are our rock and our salvation. You are our refuge and our defense. You are a merciful God and You love us. Help us to trust in You at all times. Help us to pour our hearts out to You in prayer knowing that You will hear and answer our prayers. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Lead Me to the Rock” (Psalm 61:1-8)

Lead Me to the Rock

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 61:1-8.  Psalm 61 is a Psalm of David to the Chief Musician. David cries out to God to hear his prayer. David says when his heart is overwhelmed he will cry out to God to lead him to the rock. What do you do when your heart is overwhelmed?

What are some words that you would use to describe the word “rock”? A rock is a solid mass. A large rock may be called a boulder. Smaller rocks may be considered as stones. Some rocks may be sharp and in biblical times may have been used to make weapons. In the Scriptures, the word “rock” may be a reference to the strength, to deity, to God, the mighty one.

Figuratively speaking the word “rock” may symbolize a refuge. As we think of all the meanings of the word “rock” and compare them to God we can visualize God as being our rock, our strength, a large boulder to lean or rest upon.

Deuteronomy 32:4 describes God as the Rock, “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.”

First Samuel 2:2 tells us that there is no rock like our God. “There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.”

David spoke of the LORD as his rock when God delivered him from his enemies in 2 Samuel 22:2-3, “And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.”

David declares that God is his shelter, his strong tower from the enemy. He proclaims that he will abide in God’s tabernacle, and be safe under the wings of God.

David knows that God has heard his prayers and will answer his cry. He trusted God to prolong his life and to give him the heritage of those who fear God. David promises to praise God forever and perform his vows daily to God. Do you have a habit of praising and worshiping God on a daily basis?

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 61:1-8

1 [[To the chief Musician upon Neginah, [A Psalm] of David.]] Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.
5 For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.
6 Thou wilt prolong the king’s life: and his years as many generations.
7 He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.
8 So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

 

Things to think about:

  • In what ways do you trust in God’s mercy and truth?
  • In what ways do you think of God as your rock?
  • How do you look to God as a shelter from the enemy?
  • In what ways do you give God praise daily?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 61. We see in this Scripture that David had complete faith and trust in You. He trusted in Your mercy and truth to preserve and prolong his life. He set the example for us to praise and worship You daily, no matter what is going on in our lives. Help us to follow the example and praise and worship you as David did. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

The Book of Psalms:Part 3 Chapters 61-90 by Deborah H. Bateman is 28th book in the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Deborah divided The Book of Psalms into five books to make it easier to read and study. Each book contains approximately thirty chapters from the book of Psalms.

Psalm 119 will not be included in The Book of Psalms since Deborah has already published a book about it called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet.

The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

The Book of Psalms: Part 3 Chapters 61-90 contains fifty Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
