Praise the LORD, O My Soul
Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 146:1-10. Psalm 146 is a Psalm of Praise which begins by praising the LORD. The Psalmist declares that he will praise the LORD and sing praises to Him as long as he lives. He encourages us to put our trust in the LORD and not in man.
The Psalmist proclaims that those who put their hope in the LORD will be happy. He is speaking of the LORD God of Jacob, who created heaven and earth, and everything in the earth. The LORD who judges the oppressed, gives food to the hungry and sets the captives free.
He opens the eyes of the blind, raises those who are bowed down, and loves the righteous. The LORD preserves strangers, relieves the fatherless and widows, and turns the way of the wicked upside down. The LORD God of Zion will reign forever, through all generations. Praise the LORD.
Daily Bible Reading:
Psalm 146:1-10
1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul.
2 While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.
3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.
4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.
5 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:
6 Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever:
7 Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The LORD looseth the prisoners:
8 The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind: the LORD raiseth them that are bowed down: the LORD loveth the righteous:
9 The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.
10 The LORD shall reign for ever, even thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the LORD.
Things to think about:
- Do you enjoy praising the LORD?
- What are some ways we can praise the LORD?
- What are the things in this chapter for which the Psalmist says we can praise the LORD?
Prayer of the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 146 where the Psalmist praises You. He lists all kinds of things for which we can praise You. Help us to constantly look for things and ways to praise Your holy name. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Psalm 119 has been published a book called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet. The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.
The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.
This part of the book of Psalms contains fifteen of the Songs of degrees. They were the songs or chants that the people of Israel sang as they journeyed to Jerusalem. It also contains some of the Psalms of David.
The Book of Psalms: Part 5 Chapters 120-150 contains thirty-eight Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
