Hear My Prayer, O LORD
Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 143:1-12. The Book of Psalms is a book of prayers. Psalm 143 is a Psalm of David where he pours out his heart to God asking God to hear his prayer and supplications. David asks God not to judge him because in His sight no man could be justified. God knew that no man was able to keep the law that is why He sent his Son, Jesus, into the world to save us from our sins.
Let’s take a look at Acts 13:38-39, which says, “Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.” We can be justified (just as if I never sinned) to God by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
David pours out his heart to God telling Him how the enemy has persecuted him and has brought him down. But, David knows where to go for strength. He meditates on God’s works and his soul thirsts for God.
David longs to feel the loving presence of God. He trusts God and wants to know what God wants him to do. David begs God to deliver him from his enemies and to teach him to do God’s will. He wants God to teach him to live righteously and he reminds God that he is His servant.
Romans 10:4 says, “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” When Christ died on the cross there was no more need for the law. He became the sacrifice for our sins. We have to believe and receive Him into our lives to have forgiveness of our sins. Have you accepted Christ as your Savior?

Psalm 143:1-12
1 [[A Psalm of David.]] Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.
2 And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.
3 For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.
4 Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate.
5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.
6 I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.
7 Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.
8 Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.
9 Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me.
10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
11 Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name’s sake: for thy righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble.
12 And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.
Things to think about:
- Have you ever felt as David describes in this Scripture? If so, describe your feelings and what brought them to life?
- Do you ever feel hungry and thirsty for God? If so, describe that feeling.
- How often do you pour out your heart to God?
Prayer of the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for this Scripture where we see how David prayed and poured out his heart to You. Help us to trust You and know that You have our best interest at heart. Thank You for Your Son, Jesus, who became the justification for our sins. LORD, we pray for those who have not yet accepted Him as their Savior that they would do so today. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.
This part of the book of Psalms contains fifteen of the Songs of degrees. They were the songs or chants that the people of Israel sang as they journeyed to Jerusalem. It also contains some of the Psalms of David.
The Book of Psalms: Part 5 Chapters 120-150 contains thirty-eight Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
