Great is our LORD
Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 147:1-11. Psalm 147 is a Psalm of praise to the LORD. The Psalmist declares it is good to sing praises to our God. The LORD builds up Jerusalem and gathers the outcasts of Israel. He heals those with a broken heart.
He knows all the stars by name. Great is our LORD. He is powerful. His knowledge is infinite. He lifts up the meek and casts the wicked to the ground. Let’s all sing praises to the LORD with thanksgiving in our hearts for He is merciful and full of love for us.
He causes it to rain and waters the flowers, trees, and all the earth. He provides food for the beast of the field and the fowl of the air. The LORD takes pleasure in those who love Him, fear Him, and find hope in His mercy.
Daily Bible Reading:
Psalm 147:1-11
1 Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.
2 The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.
3 He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
4 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.
5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
6 The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.
7 Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:
8 Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
9 He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.
10 He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.
Things to think about:
- Do you enjoy singing praises to the LORD?
- List the things in this Scripture for which we can be thankful to the LORD.
- List the attributes of the LORD that are mentioned in this Scripture.
- In what ways can you praise the LORD for the things you listed?
Prayer of the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 147 where the Psalmist exhorts us to sing praises to Your holy name. Help us to praise You and worship You for who You are and all You do for us. You are merciful, graceful, knowledgeable, infinite, loving, and kind. You are our provider, protector, savior, and friend. Help us to remember to praise You for all these things. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

The Book of Psalms: Part 5 Chapters 120-150 by Deborah H. Bateman is the 30th book in the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Psalm 119 was published in a book called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet. The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.
The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.
This part of the book of Psalms contains fifteen of the Songs of degrees. They were the songs or chants that the people of Israel sang as they journeyed to Jerusalem. It also contains some of the Psalms of David.
The Book of Psalms: Part 5 Chapters 120-150 contains thirty-eight Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
