Daily Bible Reading “Get Wisdom” (Proverbs 16:10-17)

Get Wisdom

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 16:10-17. The verse we will focus on in this passage of Scripture is verse 16 which says, “How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!”

A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth does not transgress in judgment.

A just weight and balance are the LORD’S: all the weights of the bag are his work.

It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.

Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love those who speak right.

The wrath of a king is like messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.

In the light of the king’s countenance is life; and his favor is like a cloud of the latter rain.

How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: those who keep their way preserve their soul.

One of the benefits of studying the book of Proverbs is to get wisdom. There are tried and true sayings and principles shared in this book.

Wisdom and understanding are more treasured than gold or silver. Wisdom and understanding come from the LORD.

You could be wealthy, but be foolish, and what good is the wealth to you. There are many people who are wealthy that make foolish decisions.

Learning wisdom from the Word of God will help you to make wise decisions in your life. Turning your life over to God and asking Him to direct your path will lead to a life of victory.

Things to think about:

  • Who is the righteous judge?
  • What did we learn in this Scripture about kings?
  • Why are wisdom and understanding more valuable than gold?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read and study this Scripture in the book of Proverbs we are reminded that wisdom and understanding are more valuable than gold or silver. Help us to seek after wisdom from Your Word. Help us to make wise decisions and follow Your ways. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “The Value of Wisdom” (Proverbs 8:1-11)

Proverbs 8 TheValue of WisdomThe Value of Wisdom

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 8:1-11. In this Scripture, Solomon shares the value of wisdom. He says, “Doesn’t wisdom cry and understanding raise her voice? She stands in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. She cries at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.”

Wisdom cries out, to you, I call. Those of you, who are simple, understand wisdom: and, those of you who are fools have an understanding heart.

Listen; I speak of excellent things; and when I open my lips you will hear right things. My mouth speaks the truth; and wickedness is a disgrace to my lips.

All the words of my mouth are honest; there is nothing presumptuous or perverse in them. They are all simple to those who understand, and right to those who find knowledge.

Obtain my instruction rather than silver; and knowledge rather than gold. Wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things we desire are not to be compared to it.

There are some very wise and intelligent people in this world. There are people who have made millions of dollars because of their wisdom and knowledge. In this Scripture, Solomon reminds us that wisdom is more valuable than rubies, silver, or gold.

We can learn and become knowledgeable about all kinds of things, but the wisdom we learn from the Bible teaches us how to live godly lives. As Christians, this is something we need to know and strive to do. The wisdom that is shared in the Bible far exceeds the wisdom of man, it is inspired by God.

Where can we learn better about wisdom, knowledge, and understanding than from the Word of God? How do you show you value the wisdom that you learn from the Word of God?

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 8:1-11

1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?
2 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.
3 She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.
4 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.
5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.
6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.
7 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.
9 They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

Things to think about:

  •  What are some of the things Solomon compares to the value of wisdom?
  • In what ways do you value wisdom?
  • What does Solomon tell us about wisdom in this Scripture?
  • Who is the wisest person you know?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in Proverbs, Solomon shares the value of wisdom. Help us to understand the value of wisdom and to treasure Your wisdom above all others, in our lives. Help us to take the wisdom we learn from Your Word and apply it to our lives daily, so that we can live righteous lives and set good examples for others. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Bible Verse to Journal or Memorize:
