Daily Bible Reading “Come Before His Presence with Thanksgiving” (Psalm 95:1-6)

Come Before His Presence with

Thanksgiving

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 95:1-6. In Psalm 95 the Psalmist reminds us to sing to the Lord. He encourages us to make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. He tells us to come before His presence with thanksgiving.

When we hear the word “Thanksgiving,” we may think of the day in November when we in North America come together to celebrate with our families. In this instance it is a time of giving thanks to God for who He is and all He has done for us.

There are many ways we can give thanks to the LORD. We can sing praises to Him. We can play an instrument with songs of praise. We can read His Word and recite Scripture to Him. We can pray and thank Him for who He is and all He does. What are some other ways you may give thanks to God?

Why should we come before His presence with thanksgiving? The Lord is a great God and King. He is above all other gods. He is the creator of the earth. He made the seas and the dry land. He also created man in His own image. He is the rock of our salvation. He provided a way of forgiveness for us.

Let’s sing praises to Him and worship Him. Let’s bow down before Him and honor Him. Let’s come into His presence with thanksgiving showing Him the gratitude that we have in our hearts for who He is and all He has done for us.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 95:1-6

1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

4 In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also.

5 The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.

6 O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.

Things to think about:

  • How can we show our gratitude to the LORD?
  • In what ways do you praise the LORD?
  • What are some things for which we can thank God?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You LORD, for You are the creator of the earth and all that is in it. You are a great God and King above all gods. You are our maker. You are the rock of our salvation. Help us to come before You with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto You with psalms and hymns of praise. We love You, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

by Deborah H. Bateman

About the book:

The Book of Psalms: Part 4 Chapters 91-118 by Deborah H. Bateman is the 29th book in the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Deborah divided The Book of Psalms into five books to make it easier to read and study. Each book contains approximately thirty chapters from the book of Psalms.

Psalm 119 has already been published in a book about it called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet. The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

The Book of Psalms: Part 4 Chapters 91-118 contains thirty-six Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.

Daily Bible Reading “Give Thanks to God” (Colossians 3:1-17)

Give Thanks to God

And whatsoever ye DO in WORD or DEED, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, GIVING THANKS to God and the Father by him. – Colossians 3:17

Paul tells the people if they are in Christ they should seek those things which are above, not the things on the earth. He says to put off the sins of the old sinful man and put on the image of the new man, which is created after the image of Christ. The Bible tells us when we get saved that we become new creatures in Christ. God helps us to do away with our old sinful nature and take up characteristics that are Christ-like. In this Scripture, Paul uses the male gender, but this applies to all those who accept Christ as their Savior, both male, and female.

Paul says as Christians we are all one in Christ; there are no differences between us because of our background or race. Paul goes on to tell what the new man should look like in Christ. These are the characteristics that Paul says should be indicative of the new man, he should be holy, merciful, and kind. He should show the traits of humbleness, meekness, and long-suffering. He should be forgiving, show love through charity, and let the peace of God rule in his heart. Paul says, “Be ye thankful.”

In verses 16 and 17 he tells us how to do that, by studying the word of God, teaching, admonishing one another, and singing psalms and hymns. He reminds us that whatever we do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God, the Father by Him.

As Christians, we should get in the habit of studying God’s Word and encouraging one another. God loves it when we sing songs of praise and worship to Him and give thanks to Him for who He is and all He has done for us.

Daily Bible Reading:

Colossians 3:1-17

1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Things to think about:

  • In what ways can seek the things which are above?
  • Have you put off the old sinful man?
  • Are you in the habit of giving thanks to the LORD?

Prayer of the Day
:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for our sins. Help us to set our sights on things above and not on things on the earth. Help us to be forgiving of one another. Help us to put on the fruits of the spirit. We love You and praise You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Magnify Him with Thanksgiving” (Psalm 69:30-36

Magnify Him with Thanksgiving

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 69:30-36. This Scripture is part of a Psalm of David. In verse 30 David says, “I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.” We should not only give thanks and praise to God at Thanksgiving, but let’s remember to always praise God, magnify His holy name, and give thanks to Him always for everything. Every good and perfect gift we have comes from God.

We can show our appreciation to God by singing praises to Him and spending time studying His Word and praying to Him. When we lift our voices and take time out of our busy schedules to spend time alone with God in prayer we show Him we love Him and are thankful for everything He does for us. It pleases the LORD.

Think about how it makes you feel when your children honor you as their parents and are thankful for what you do for them. God is our heavenly Father. It must make Him feel happy when we honor Him and show gratitude towards Him.

In verse 34 David proclaims, “Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein.” If all of creation can praise and honor God, then we need to make sure we do our part in praising Him and giving Him glory, praise and honor for who He is and for everything He provides for us.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 69:30-36

30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.
31 This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.
32 The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.
33 For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.
34 Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein.
35 For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.
36 The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.

Things to think about:

  • What are some ways we can give thanks and praise to God?
  • Where do the good things of life come from?
  • How can we show our appreciation for all God has done for us?

Prayer of the Day
:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We want to praise Your name and magnify You with thanksgiving, for all You are and all You have provided for us. Help us to remember that every good gift and every perfect gift comes from You. We love You, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “I Give Thanks To God” (Psalm 139:14)

I Give Thanks To God

Today’s Daily Bible Reading was written by my friend, Lily Brenner.

I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are Thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

-Psalm 139:14

In God‘s wisdom, He chose for me to be born into this century and not another. Born to the man and woman He chose for my parents and blessing me with four brothers and four sisters. He watched over me when I was a small child even though I didn’t know of His existence. He sent His angels to guard me against dangers I could not see.

For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

-Psalm 91:11-12

I give thanks to God for His love when He saved my soul as a young twelve-year-old girl. God sent His only Son to die so His saving grace could be mine. Throughout the years Jesus has shown the way in the Bible, His footsteps I should follow. “In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:6). I have wandered from the path so straight and narrow only to find He had been with me and guiding me back from my wandering ways.

I have learned from the Bible how to live, forgive, help, and love. Speaking of love, He gave me a wonderful man I’ve been married to for over thirty years now. We have been blessed with two beautiful daughters and they’ve married and have started their families. I give thanks to God. Grandchildren are a deep pleasure and they’re in church every Wednesday and Sunday. I give thanks to God.

When I have been sad, depressed, angry, confused, or hurt by someone’s tongue or hands, I have been comforted by the Holy Spirit. “And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever” (John 14:16). I give thanks to God.

Over the years God has been so kind and generous and any time is a good time to give thanks to God! He loves me unconditionally and wants the best for me, as He does for all His children.

God has been moving in my life for the past several years now in a direction I would never have believed possible. He has me on a path to encourage and inspire others through the internet and social networking sites. He has blessed me to build and maintain a website. I have no formal training to do this, it all comes from the faith He gives me.

“For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith” (Romans 12:3).

My hope and prayer for people when they visit my website is that some will receive Jesus as their Savior, and Christians will be lifted up in such a way that their day is better.

Things to think about:

  • What are some things in your life for which you can give thanks to God?
  • Who is the Comforter that God sends to us once we’re saved?
  • Who does God give us to protect us?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for all Your many blessings in our life. We praise You for the Holy Spirit who You send as our Comforter. Thank You for the angels You have watching over us to protect us. You are a good God who loves us and cares for us in every way. Help us to always be grateful for all that You do for us. We love You, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Remember to Give Thanks” (Numbers 11)

Give Thanks Remember to Give ThanksRemember to Give Thanks

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Numbers 11. This lesson is about the children of Israel during the time when they were wandering in the wilderness. God met their needs for food, but they still complained. His provision wasn’t good enough for them. Are we ever guilty of doing the same thing, instead of thanking God for what He is providing? Notice how it made God feel when the children of Israel complained. Verse 1 says His anger was kindled against them. I never considered the fact that it angered God when I complained, have you?

Sometimes God provides for us, but we aren’t happy with what or how He provides. We want what we want and we want it now. We don’t consider that what we’re asking for might not be good for us. We don’t consider that the time might not be right for us to have what we’re wanting.

Sometimes we act like spoiled brats who always want their way. Can you imagine how it makes God feel when we act this way?
God gave the children of Israel manna to eat, but they weren’t satisfied.

They wanted meat to eat. The people complained. It angered the LORD and Moses was displeased with them as well. Be careful what you ask for, you might get it. The people wanted meat and the LORD caused so many quails to come the people were sickened by them.

Have you ever wanted something to eat really badly, then you ate too much of it and it made you sick to your stomach? Well, the children of Israel complained so much about not having meat, God gave them an overabundance of it to the point it made them sick.

Have you ever thought about how it makes God feel when we complain about the things He has provided for us? How much better do you think it makes Him feel when we give thanks to Him for what He has done for us? Instead of complaining about what we don’t have, maybe we should be more thankful for what we do have.

Daily Bible Reading:

Numbers 11:1-10

1 And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.
2 And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.
3 And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.
4 And the mixed multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:
6 But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.
7 And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium.
8 And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.
9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.
10 Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.

Numbers 11:31-33

31 And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day’s journey on this side, and as it were a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.
32 And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
33 And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.

Things to think about:

  • Have you ever stopped what you were doing to thank God?
  • What are some ways we can thank God for who He is?
  • In what ways can we show God we have an attitude of gratitude?
  • Are you in the habit of complaining?
  • Have you asked God to help change your attitude?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this Scripture in Numbers 11. We see where the children of Israel complained and it angered You. Please forgive us for complaining and help us to be more grateful. You have blessed us in so many ways. Thank You for everything You are to us and for everything You do for us. Mostly, we want to thank You for Your Son, Jesus who You sent to die for our sins. We love You LORD. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
