Daily Bible Reading “Pleasant Words” (Proverbs 16:24-33)

Proverbs Pleasant Words 52Pleasant Words

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 16:24-33. In this Scripture we are reminded that pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof is the ways of death.

People who labor work for themselves for their mouth craves it of them.

An ungodly person digs up evil: and their lips are like a burning fire.

A perverse person sows strife: and a person who whispers separates good friends.

A violent person entices their neighbor, and leads them the wrong way.

Those who shut their eyes to devise perverse things: and move their lips to bring evil to pass.

Gray hair is a crown of glory, if it is found in the way of righteousness.

Those who are slow to anger are better than the mighty; and those who rule their spirit than those who overtake a city.

The lot is cast into the lap; but the LORD is in charge of the whole disposing of it.

Have you ever noticed how the way someone talks to you affects the way you respond to them? We can use our mouths for good or for evil. We can talk in a pleasant tone of voice when we speak to people or we can holler and scream at them in an angry voice.

We can whisper, tell secrets and lies behind people’s backs or we can lift people up with our words. Lord, help us to us our mouth as an instrument for you.

28 A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.
29 A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.
30 He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.
31 The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.
32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.

Things to think about:

  • How does the way we speak to others affect them?
  • What does this Scripture say about a person who is slow to anger?
  • What do we learn about those who have evil intent in their hearts?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in the book of Proverbs that pleasant words are as sweet as a honeycomb. They nurture the body and soul. Help us to keep this in mind as we are sharing with others. Help us to be slow to anger and speak in a way that would be pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
