Daily Bible Reading “Consider the Ant” (Proverbs 6:6-11)

Consider the Ant

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 6:6-11. In this Scripture, Solomon tells us to consider the ways of the ant. The ant has no guide, overseer, or ruler.

She provides her meat in the summer and gathers her food in the harvest.

He asks, ” How long wilt you sleep, O sluggard? when wilt you arise from your sleep?”

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: and poverty will come as one who travels, and your want as an armed man.

Ants are industrious. They are not lazy. They are workers. They take care of themselves. They are strong. They clean themselves. They form colonies. They work together to provide for the whole colony. They are not selfish, but work for the good of all of them. Solomon tells us to prepare for winter, if we don’t we will be without. Have you ever seen an ant sitting around doing nothing?

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 6:6-11

6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Things to think about:

  • What do we know about the ant?
  • How does the ant work?
  • What happens if we are lazy?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we study this Scripture in Proverbs we see that Solomon compares us to the ant. He tells us to model ourselves after the ant. He reminds us not to be lazy. Help us to follow the example of the ant. Help us to not be lazy, but to be industrious and serve one another as we serve You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Christian Video:

Instead of a music video today I thought I’d share this video. For those of you who are interested in ants and would like to learn more about them and how they work. I found this video on you tube a sermon by Pastor Doug Batchelor and he shares some amazing facts about the ant.
