Daily Bible Reading “Give Thanks for the HOPE We Have in Christ” (2 Thessalonians 2

Give Thanks for the Hope we Have in Christ

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from 2 Thessalonians 2:1-17. In the first chapter of the letter Paul wrote to the church at Thessalonica he addresses the tribulations that they have been going through. In this chapter he talks to them about the hope we have in Christ.
Even in that time the people thought the Lord was coming back or had already came and they missed it. Paul tells them of some of the signs of the times and things that will take place before the Lord comes back to gather His children.
Paul talks about the wrath that will come upon the people who refuse to accept Christ. It breaks my heart to think that anybody would have to go through this. It’s my desire that all would come to Christ, but I know there are some who won’t accept Him.
If you are reading this and have never accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, I urge you to pray and ask Him to come into your heart and forgive you of your sins, that you might escape the wrath to come and live eternally with Him in heaven.Paul gives thanks to God for the people and talks to them about the hope we have in Christ. Do you know of that hope?

Daily Bible Reading:
2 Thessalonians 2:1-17
1  Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2  That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3  Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4  Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
5  Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
6  And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
7  For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
8  And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
9  Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

Things to think about:
  • How do you know if you’ve found the hope of the Lord?
  • In what ways does the Lord comfort your heart?
  • Do you look forward to the coming of Christ?

Prayer of the day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the hope we have in You. We pray for those who haven’t yet accepted Your salvation, that they might accept Jesus as Lord and Savior of their lives. We give thanks to You for Your love for us and the comfort we have in You. We love You, LORD. Amen.

Daily Bible Verse:

God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

Daily Bible Reading “Give Thanks Always” (Ephesians 4:31-32; 5:1-21)

ephesians-5-20-21Give Thanks Always

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Ephesians 4:31-32; 5:1-21.

Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

-Ephesians 5:20-21

In this lesson we’ll look at various Scriptures from Ephesians chapters four and five. In this Scripture Paul is telling us how we should live as children of God. He tells us that we have to forgive others. Holding un-forgiveness in our hearts hurts us more than it does the other person. Many times when people hurt us we tend to hold grudges or un-forgiveness in our hearts. When we forgive them it releases us from bondage. It helps relieve stress in our bodies and helps us to not have anything in our heart against others or against God.

Paul reminds us to walk in love. This is not something that is easy to do on your own, but, having God in your heart will help you. Paul warns about immoral behavior that we should stay away from such as bitterness, wrath, anger, fornication, and covetousness. When we sin, we hurt God, we hurt ourselves and we hurt others.

Paul reminds us that we used to walk in darkness, but now we are children of light. He tells us to not walk as fools, but as people who are wise. We have to be careful what we put in our hearts and minds. When we put good things in, good comes out, when we put evil in, evil comes out.

You’ve probably heard the children’s song that says, “Be careful little eyes what you see, be careful little ears what you hear, be careful little feet where you go, and be careful little hands what you do.” We should protect ourselves from listening, saying, seeing, going, and doing things that aren’t right.

There may have been places you went before you were a Christian that you shouldn’t go to any more. There may be music you listened to that you shouldn’t listen to any more. There may be television shows that you used to watch that you shouldn’t watch any more. These things may cause you to sin or slip back into your old way of life. God wants us to have pure hearts and live pure lives.

Paul encourages us to be filled with the spirit by speaking in psalms, singing hymns and giving thanks always to God for all things.

Daily Bible Reading:

Ephesians 4:31-32

31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
32  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Ephesians 5:1-21

1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth)
10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

Things to think about:

  • As Christians how should we strive to live?
  • What are some things as Christians we should we stay away from?
  • What do you give thanks for?
  • Who should we give thanks to?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this letter from Paul explaining to us how we as children of God should live. Help us to keep our bodies clean and pure before You. Help us to be forgiving to others. Lord, we know we can’t do all these things without Your help.  Thank You for forgiving us. Help us to be filled with the Spirit by singing, praising You, thanking You and keeping Your Word in our hearts and minds. We love You, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Give Thanks to God” (Colossians 3:1-17)

Give Thanks to God

And whatsoever ye DO in WORD or DEED, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, GIVING THANKS to God and the Father by him. – Colossians 3:17

Paul tells the people if they are in Christ they should seek those things which are above, not the things on the earth. He says to put off the sins of the old sinful man and put on the image of the new man, which is created after the image of Christ. The Bible tells us when we get saved that we become new creatures in Christ. God helps us to do away with our old sinful nature and take up characteristics that are Christ-like. In this Scripture, Paul uses the male gender, but this applies to all those who accept Christ as their Savior, both male, and female.

Paul says as Christians we are all one in Christ; there are no differences between us because of our background or race. Paul goes on to tell what the new man should look like in Christ. These are the characteristics that Paul says should be indicative of the new man, he should be holy, merciful, and kind. He should show the traits of humbleness, meekness, and long-suffering. He should be forgiving, show love through charity, and let the peace of God rule in his heart. Paul says, “Be ye thankful.”

In verses 16 and 17 he tells us how to do that, by studying the word of God, teaching, admonishing one another, and singing psalms and hymns. He reminds us that whatever we do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God, the Father by Him.

As Christians, we should get in the habit of studying God’s Word and encouraging one another. God loves it when we sing songs of praise and worship to Him and give thanks to Him for who He is and all He has done for us.

Daily Bible Reading:

Colossians 3:1-17

1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Things to think about:

  • In what ways can seek the things which are above?
  • Have you put off the old sinful man?
  • Are you in the habit of giving thanks to the LORD?

Prayer of the Day
:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for our sins. Help us to set our sights on things above and not on things on the earth. Help us to be forgiving of one another. Help us to put on the fruits of the spirit. We love You and praise You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Magnify Him with Thanksgiving” (Psalm 69:30-36

Magnify Him with Thanksgiving

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 69:30-36. This Scripture is part of a Psalm of David. In verse 30 David says, “I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.” We should not only give thanks and praise to God at Thanksgiving, but let’s remember to always praise God, magnify His holy name, and give thanks to Him always for everything. Every good and perfect gift we have comes from God.

We can show our appreciation to God by singing praises to Him and spending time studying His Word and praying to Him. When we lift our voices and take time out of our busy schedules to spend time alone with God in prayer we show Him we love Him and are thankful for everything He does for us. It pleases the LORD.

Think about how it makes you feel when your children honor you as their parents and are thankful for what you do for them. God is our heavenly Father. It must make Him feel happy when we honor Him and show gratitude towards Him.

In verse 34 David proclaims, “Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein.” If all of creation can praise and honor God, then we need to make sure we do our part in praising Him and giving Him glory, praise and honor for who He is and for everything He provides for us.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 69:30-36

30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.
31 This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.
32 The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.
33 For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.
34 Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein.
35 For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.
36 The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.

Things to think about:

  • What are some ways we can give thanks and praise to God?
  • Where do the good things of life come from?
  • How can we show our appreciation for all God has done for us?

Prayer of the Day
:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We want to praise Your name and magnify You with thanksgiving, for all You are and all You have provided for us. Help us to remember that every good gift and every perfect gift comes from You. We love You, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Blessings of Giving Thanks” (Psalm 100:1-5)

Blessings of Giving Thanks

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 100. This post was written by my friend, Janet Harllee.

I can already smell Mamma’s Russian tea, and taste her pumpkin pie and persimmon pudding. You cannot have Thanksgiving without them.

Thanksgiving always brings a flood of great memories to me. My parents would rent tables and set them up in our basement. Then neighbors, family, and friends were invited to bring a dish of their favorite food and join us for a Thanksgiving meal. There were friends and family we had not seen since the last Thanksgiving Day. It was a time to catch up on each other, to share hugs, laughter, and music. Psalm 100 is one of my favorite Psalms!

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 100:1-5

1 Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands. (Acknowledge Him.)

2 Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. (Praise Him; be joyful.)

3 Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. (Know that God is our creator. He is the good Shepherd who loves and cares for His people.)

4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name. (We are all invited to praise the Lord. We are dependent on Him.)

5 For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations. (He is faithful to all generations.)

The Pilgrims gave thanks to God for their bountiful harvest. Giving thanks to God is pleasing to Him. In praising Him, you will experience great joy!

Things to think about:

  • Are you truly giving Him thanks for blessing you?
  • Do you acknowledge God and give Him praise?
  • For what are you thankful?
  • Do we have to wait for Thanksgiving to give thanks to God?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

I pray that You will open our hearts to be truly thankful for all your blessings. Thank You, most of all, for Your grace. Teach us Lord to be more like You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
