Daily Bible Reading “Parable of the Sower” (Matthew 13:1-30)

Parable of the Sower

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Matthew 13:1-30. Jesus is telling a story or parable of the sower to the multitudes who followed Him to the seashore. He explains how we hear the Word of God and how we share the Word of God. Only the seed that is planted on good ground grows and multiplies.

In Matthew 13:9 Jesus says, “Who has ears to hear let him hear.” Sometimes we have a problem with listening, paying attention, and understanding. The disciples ask Him why He is speaking in parables. God does not force His will or way on anybody. He only wants people who want Him.

Through this parable Jesus is telling us that some will see and some will hear, but those who don’t want to see or hear, won’t. This story also helps those of us who are trying to share the Word of God with others to realize that not everyone who hears the Word will receive it.

It depends on the condition of their heart and mind as to whether they are open to hear and receive the truth of the gospel or if they want to continue in their sin. We can’t make people accept the truth of the Word of God; all we can do is share it with them and hope and pray they’ll accept it.

Daily Bible Reading:

Matthew 13:1-30

1 The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.
2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.
3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.
19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;
21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

Things to think about:

What is Jesus trying to show us through this parable?
Why did Jesus speak in parables?
Do you use stories when you are sharing the gospel with others?
Have you ever tried sharing the gospel with someone who wouldn’t receive it?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this Scripture that helps us to know not everyone who hears Your Word will receive it. We pray for those who do hear it that you might open their hearts and minds to it so they may be able to receive it. Help us to understand the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven. We ask that Your will be done here on earth as it is in heaven. We love You, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Jesus Talks about the Sabbath

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Matthew 12:1-24. This Scripture is about the Sabbath day and what is lawful or unlawful to do on the Sabbath. The Sabbath day in Israel was considered to be the day of rest.

They had many rules about what you couldn’t do on the Sabbath. There was no way they could rest for worrying about breaking the laws they had set forth for the Sabbath. Hebrews 4 reminds us it is in Jesus we find rest.

The Pharisees rebuke Jesus and the disciples for eating corn on the Sabbath. Then they ask Jesus if it is lawful to heal on the Sabbath. Notice as the man held out his hand he was healed.

If we just do what the word says, God will help us to do it. In Matthew 12:8 Jesus says, “For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.”

The Pharisees held a council to see how they might destroy Him. When Jesus heard this He left and went about teaching and healing people as He had before.

Colossians 2:16-17 tells us, “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”

Daily Bible Reading:

Matthew 12:1-25

1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.
2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.
3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;
4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?
5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?
6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:
10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.
14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.
15 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;
16 And charged them that they should not make him known:
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.
19 He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.
21 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

Things to think about:

Was it more important to Jesus: to obey the laws of the day, or to carry out His work?
Jesus was concerned for the people. Do you have compassion for other people?
Can you imagine being one of the people who got to witness the miracles of Jesus?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You that in this Scripture You show us all these laws that had been put into place weren’t what was important to Jesus. We see it was important for Him to go about teaching and healing the people. You show us how important man is to You through this Scripture. Help us to have the compassion for others that You have. We love You, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Jesus Calls His Disciples” (Matthew 10:1-20)

Jesus Calls His Disciples

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Matthew 10:1-20. This chapter talks about Jesus calling His twelve disciples. The Scriptures inform us He gave them power to cast out unclean spirits and to heal people of sicknesses and diseases.

He lists the twelve disciples by name. Jesus tells them to gather the lost sheep of Israel.

He gives them some guidelines to go by. Jesus basically tells them to go with nothing and to stay at whoever’s house is worthy, and if the people in the house don’t receive them and their message, the disciples should dust off their feet when they leave.

Jesus tells the disciples He is sending them out as sheep among wolves. He advises them that they need to be wise as serpents and as harmless as doves.

Jesus warns them that they’ll be persecuted for His sake. He tells them not to worry about what they’ll say; the Holy Spirit will lead them at the time of judgment.

Daily Bible Reading:

Matthew 10:1-20

1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;
4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.
11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.
12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.
13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

Things to think about:

What do you think your life would have been like if you would have been one of the ones called as Jesus’ disciples?
How would you have responded to His guidelines?
Would you have been willing to go?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture telling us about Jesus calling the disciples and the guidelines that He gave them when they went about teaching the gospel. Help us to use these examples as we serve You. In this day and time it is hard for us to think of going in this manner, but help us to have faith that You will provide for us. In Jesus name, we pray. We love You, LORD. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Jesus Heals the People” (Matthew 9:20-38)

Jesus Heals the People

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Matthew 9:20-38. In this Scripture, Jesus goes about teaching, preaching, and healing the people from all types of sicknesses and diseases. There was a woman, who had been sick for twelve years. She touched Jesus’ garment and Jesus tells her that her faith has made her whole.

Jesus goes to a ruler’s house and takes a maid by the hand and brings her back to life. He also heals two blind men. He asked them if they believed that He could heal them, then He tells them because of their faith, it was so. Jesus casts out demons from a dumb man, who was then able to speak. Do you see how important our belief and faith in Jesus is? It was because of their faith in Him that He did these things.

The last few verses of this Scripture really touched my heart. I have heard it before, but today it brought me to tears. Jesus talks about the people being scattered abroad, as sheep with no shepherd. He says the harvest is plenteous, but the laborers are few and He asks them to pray that the Lord of the harvest will send forth laborers. If you are a Christian, have you ever thought about how God would have you to labor for His harvest?

If you are not a Christian, have you thought about receiving Christ as your Savior? All you have to do is pray and ask Him to forgive you of your sins, come into your heart and life, and believe that He is able to forgive you. If you accept Christ as your Savior today, please contact me saying you accepted God, so we can praise God for your salvation, and pray for you, also. May God bless you all!

20 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:
21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.
22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.
23 And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise,
24 He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.
25 But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.
26 And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.
27 And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.
28 And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.
29 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.
30 And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.
31 But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.
32 As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.
33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
34 But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.
35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Things to think about:

How would you describe your faith?
Do you believe in Jesus?
Do you believe Jesus has the power to heal people, not only of their sickness and diseases, but also of their sins?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture that tells us how Jesus went about teaching, preaching, and healing people. Help us to have the faith these people had, so we too can experience Your miraculous power. We pray LORD, for the harvest that You would send Your laborers to gather people to You. LORD, show us what You would have us do concerning these things. LORD, we pray for those who don’t know You, that You might open their hearts and minds to Your Word and help them to believe. In Jesus’ name, we pray. We love You, LORD, Amen.
