Greater Love
Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from John 15:13. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” As we, in the US, celebrate Memorial Day, we think of all those who have sacrificed their life for our freedom.
Many have given so much of themselves, because of their love for their country, so that we could be free. They have sacrificed their time. They have sacrificed time with their families. Some have given the ultimate sacrifice and given their life in pursuit of our freedom.
The greatest sacrifice of all is that of Jesus Christ who died on the cross, not only for our country, but for the whole world. The Bible tells us in John 3:16 that God so loved the world that he gave his only son so that we may have eternal life.
As we celebrate Memorial Day let’s show our love and appreciation for those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. Remember the families who have lost loved ones in pursuit of our freedom. Let’s also celebrate the sacrifice that Jesus Christ gave on the cross for us.
If you have not accepted Jesus’ sacrifice for your sin, do so today. It will not only change your life now, but it will change your life for all eternity.
Daily Bible Reading:
John 15:13
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
John 3:16-18
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Things to think about:
- Why would someone sacrifice so much for freedom?
- What kind of person does it take to give so much for the sake of others?
- Why did God give His son for us?
- How can we accept this sacrifice for our sins?
Prayer of the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
As we think of those who have sacrificed their life for our freedom we are grateful. But even more than that we are overjoyed for the gift of salvation that You gave us through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to show our love for others and our gratitude for those who have sacrificed so much for us. Help us to share the love of Jesus Christ with others. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

The Book of Psalms:
Part 2 Chapters 31-60
by Deborah H. Bateman
About the book:
The Book of Psalms: Part 2 Chapters 31-60 by Deborah H. Bateman is 27th book in the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Deborah divided The Book of Psalms into five books to make it easier to read and study. Each book will contain approximately thirty chapters from the book of Psalms.
Psalm 119 will not be included in The Book of Psalms since Deborah has already published a book about it called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet. The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.
The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.
The Book of Psalms: Part 2 Chapters 31-60 contains thirty-five Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
