Daily Bible Reading “All Things Work Together for Good” (Romans 8:28-31)

All Things Work Together for Good

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Romans 8:28-31. This is one of my favorite passages of Scripture. I love the promise in Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” He doesn’t say “some things” He says “all things work together for good to those who love God, and are called according to His purpose.” This is what I call my life verse. It is a verse from the Bible I have treasured as long as I can remember.

Those who He called He justified, and glorified. If you have been called as a child of God He has justified you and glorified you. You are a new creature in Christ Jesus. The Bible tells us “old things are passed away and all things become new.” When you become a Christian you put the old sinful life behind you and take on the new life of being renewed in Christ.

If God is for us who can be against us? This is something we need to remind ourselves of constantly. Even if someone is against us in this life, how much does it really matter in the scheme of eternal things?

Daily Bible Reading:

Romans 8:28-31

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Things to think about:

Have you been called by God?

What does verse twenty-eight promise? How does that promise matter in your life?

If God is for us who can be against us?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear God,

We thank You that we can be sure that all things work together for good to those who love You. We thank You for Your Son who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Help us to stand on Your promises. Help us to know in our hearts “if God is for us who can be against us.” In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “He Loved Us” (Ephesians 2:4-9)

He Loved Us

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Ephesians 2:4-9. In Ephesians 2:4, Paul says, “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,” God is merciful, He loves us so much He demonstrated His great love for us while we were still dead in our sins He made us alive in Christ.

God showed His compassion toward us by giving us a way to have forgiveness for our sins. If it wasn’t for His love and compassion for us, we would all be on our way to hell. Thank God for His love, grace, and mercy toward us.

By His grace we are saved. Only through God’s unmerited favor can we be saved. God raised us up with Christ to sit in heavenly places, so He could show His abundant grace and compassion to us through Jesus Christ. It is by grace we are saved through faith. It is a precious gift of God. It is not anything we can do by ourselves or by our own works, so we have no reason to boast in ourselves. We can only boast about God and His great love for us, which He expressed through His Son, Jesus Christ.

When someone gives you a gift, do you open it right away? Are you excited to see what is inside the package? What would happen if someone offered you a gift, but you never opened it? It would be there for you to enjoy, if you would open it and take advantage of the gift inside. That is often how we look at God’s gift of salvation. It is there for us to receive if we are willing to accept it. God is not going to force it on us. We have to receive it willingly. Have you accepted God’s gift of salvation for your life?

Daily Bible Reading:

Ephesians 2:4-9

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, by grace ye are saved;

6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Things to think about:

Are you thankful for God’s mercy?

What does the Scripture mean when it says, “By grace we are saved?”

Have you accepted God’s gift of salvation?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear God,

We thank You for this Scripture which reminds us how much You love us. It tells us about Your grace and mercy toward us. Help us to realize what a precious gift You gave us through Your Son. Help those who haven’t accepted this gift of salvation to do so today. Help those of us who know Jesus as our Savior to appreciate the gracious gift You gave us. In Jesus’ precious name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “My Peace I Give Unto You” (John 14:16-31)

My Peace I Give Unto You

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from John 14:16-31. In this Scripture, Jesus is talking to the disciples. He tells them He will pray and ask the Father to send a Comforter.

The Comforter He is talking about is the Holy Spirit which dwells within you when you become a Christian. Jesus says to them that in a little while the world wouldn’t see Him anymore, but they will see Him: “Because I live, you will live also.” In John 14:20 He says, “At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.”

Jesus says, “He who has his commandments, and keeps them, it is he who loves me, and he who loves me will be loved by the Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him and we will come to him and abide with him. He that loves me not and does not keep my sayings will not know me.” Jesus wants us to have a close, intimate, personal relationship with Him. Why did God send the Comforter to believers? God sent Him because He loves us and cares for us. He wanted us to feel at peace.

Jesus tells them the Comforter, the Holy Ghost who the Father will send in His name, will teach them all things and bring all things to their remembrance. It is the Holy Ghost that prompts us and reminds us of the things of God when we are a believer. God sent the Comforter to believers so we could have His peace in our hearts and not be afraid.

Jesus tells His disciples, “My peace I leave with you, so don’t let your heart be troubled or afraid.” He says He is going away, but He is coming again. Jesus told them He had to do these things because He loves the Father, and must do God’s commandments.

Jesus was obedient to God, even unto death. Jesus wanted the disciples to be at peace and not worry about what was going to happen to Him. He knew that the Holy Spirit would comfort them and give them peace in their hearts. When we trust God we can have peace in our hearts knowing He is in control.

Daily Bible Reading:

John 14:16-31

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.

25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.

30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

Things to think about:

What is the purpose of the Holy Spirit?

Who has the Holy Spirit living in them?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear God,

We thank You for the Comforter You send to us in the Holy Spirit. Thank You for the peace You give us. Help us to rest in You and not let our hearts be troubled or afraid. In Jesus’ name, we pray. We love You, LORD. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Husbands Love Your Wives” (Colossians 3:19)

Husbands Love Your Wives

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Colossians 3:19. Colossians 3:19: “Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.”

Do you find it funny that in the same Scripture that talks about husbands loving their wives also tells them not to be bitter against them? Do you think this may be a problem? We are going to look at those two words, love and bitter, to see what they mean, according to the Blue Letter Bible Dictionary.

Love:
To welcome
To entertain
To be contented with
To be well pleased with
To be fond of
To love dearly

Bitter:
To render anger
To be indignant
To be embittered
To be irritated
To grieve
To deal bitterly with

This particular Scripture is for husbands, but it would probably do us all good to take heed to its instruction. Sometimes in the husband-wife relationship, with the trials of life, if we aren’t careful we can let bitterness, anger, and discontentment creep in.

The husband-wife relationship is one of the most important relationships we have here on this earth, besides our relationship with the Lord. How we interact with each other is an example to our children as to how they should interact with others.

Sometimes we have more patience and tolerance with our friends or co-workers than we do with our own families. When we live in the house day after day with people, over time it is easy to take them for granted. Sometimes the smallest things will start to get on our nerves and we will lose our patience with each other. We need to be alert as to how we treat each other.

In our minds, if we go back to the day we were married. Remember some of the reasons we fell in love to begin with. It is a good idea to write some of the things we love about our spouses and read them occasionally to remind ourselves why we fell in love and why we chose this person to share our life. Also, as time goes on and we mature in our relationships, the relationship may change, but the underlying reasons for love are still there.

We need to remember we aren’t promised tomorrow and we never know what the future may bring in our lives and in our homes. Try to remember this Scripture and strive to love more and to be less bitter.

What are some of the definitions of love?
How do you practice love?
What are some of the definitions of bitter?
How do you show bitterness in your marriage?
How can we make our relationships better?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear God,

As we read this Scripture we see the importance of loving each other and not being bitter against our spouses. Help us, Lord, as we live, to practice this principle. Help us to be more loving. Help us to be less angry, bitter, intolerant, and irritated. Help us to show a Christ-like love for our spouses. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
