Daily Bible Reading “Jesus Heals the Sick” (Matthew 8:1-17)

Jesus Heals the Sick

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Matthew 8:1-17. After Jesus finished the Sermon on the Mount and came down the mountain, great multitudes of people followed him. They brought people with all sorts of diseases and He healed them.

If you will notice in the Scripture, He touched them and spoke words to them and they were immediately healed. All they had to do was believe that He could do it. How strong is your faith? Do you believe Jesus can heal the sick?

In this Scripture not only does He heal people of different diseases, but He also heals people who are possessed with the devil and He casts the evil spirits from them. Can you imagine the excitement of the crowd as they see this entire situation taking place?

We are reminded in Matthew 8:17 that it was prophesied by Esaias (Isaiah), that Jesus would take up our infirmities and bear our sicknesses. Jesus is the Great Physician, there is nothing from which He can’t heal us. The greatest thing He heals us from is our hearts from sin.

Daily Bible Reading:

Matthew 8:1-17

1 When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
14 And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever.
15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.
16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

Things to think about:

Have you ever asked God to heal anyone?
Do you believe He is able to heal people?
Has He healed your heart and life from sin?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You that this Scripture shows us You can heal any sickness we might have. Help us have the faith to believe. Thank You for sending Jesus to heal our hearts from sin. We love You, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “The Narrow Gate” (Matthew 7:13-29)

The Narrow Gate

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Matthew 7:13-29. In this Scripture, Jesus says, “Wide is the gate to destruction, but narrow is the gate that leads to life, therefore few will find it.” Which path are you on?

He tells us to beware of false prophets. Jesus goes on to compare people with trees, saying a good tree produces good fruit and an evil tree produces evil fruit. You can test people by the fruit they bear. Jesus tells us not everybody who professes to call Him Lord will enter into heaven.

Jesus compares a wise man who builds his house on a solid rock and a foolish one who builds his house on sand. When the rain or storms of life come, which one stands? Of course, the one who builds his house on the solid rock. Read this Scripture and determine where you stand with God.

Daily Bible Reading:

Matthew 7:13-29

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Things to think about:

Are you going through the wide gate or the narrow gate?
Is your life built on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ?
Have you made sure of your salvation?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this Scripture where Jesus speaks to the people. Help us find the narrow gate that leads to life eternal. Help us be like the trees that bring forth good fruit and the man who builds his house on the rock. You are the rock, LORD. Help us to do what You teach us in Your word. We love You, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “A-S-K” (Matthew 7:1-12)

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Matthew 7:1-12. In this Scripture, Jesus tells us not to judge one another, so we won’t be judged. We really have no right to judge someone else, because we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. We have all made mistakes. We have all made bad decisions.

In Matthew 7:7-12, Jesus tells us to ask and it shall be given to you. Then He compares our kids asking us for something to us asking our heavenly Father for something. He says if we know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more our heavenly Father should know how to give good gifts to us, as we are His children.

The Bible says we have not because we ask not. Have you ever thought about the word ASK? Look at Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” Let’s look at an acrostic of the word ASK.

A-Ask-It shall be given you
S-Seek-Ye shall find
K-Knock-It shall be opened unto you

We just need to ASK: not only for the things we need, but we need to think about the gift of salvation that God gives us through His Son. We need to ask for forgiveness; if we ask, we’ll receive salvation. Seek: we need to seek the Lord; if we seek Him, we’ll find Him. Knock: we need to pray and knock on the door until it is opened to us.

Daily Bible Reading:

Matthew 7:1-12

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If ye Then being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

Things to think about:

Should we judge others?
Should we ask God for the things we need?
Should we seek God?
Have you knocked on the door of salvation until it was opened for you?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this Scripture that tells us to ask You for our needs. Our greatest need is for salvation. You answered that need by sending Your Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. All we have to do is ask You for forgiveness and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We thank You for the gift of salvation. Help us not to judge one another and to be forgiving of one another. We love You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “We Need the Savior” (Matthew 5:21-48)

We Need the Savior

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Matthew 5:21-48. In this Scripture, Jesus is trying to show us our need for the Savior. He is trying to show us how we should live, even though in our human state none of us are able to keep the law. That doesn’t mean we should just do whatever we want, but we should strive to be and do what God would have us to.

Even at our best, we cannot keep all the laws of God on our own. That is why Jesus came to die on the cross for our sins. We are all guilty of sin. As we read this Scripture not only realize that we are all sinners, but see the standards that Jesus sets forth for us. We have to deal with any problem we have that would cause us to have these kinds of attitudes and behaviors Jesus wants to change.

In dealing with others we need to remember these two Scriptures: Romans 3:10 tells us, “There is none righteous, no, not one,” and Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” We all make mistakes and do things we shouldn’t do in spite of our best efforts. We have to be willing to forgive others and not hold their sin against them. This is hard to do sometimes, but with God’s help and Jesus’ forgiveness, we can live peaceably with everyone.

Daily Bible Reading:

Matthew 5:21-48

21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:
35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Things to think about:

When reading this Scripture do you see things you are guilty of?
Do you love your enemies?
Have you accepted God’s forgiveness through His Son, Jesus Christ?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture we realize we all are sinners and we have all come short of the glory of God. Without Jesus dying on the cross for our sins, there is no way we could enter the kingdom of God. Thank You for making a way for us to be forgiven. We love You, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
