Brethren Dwell in Unity
Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 133:1-3. Psalm 133 is a song of degrees of David. This is another really short Psalm, but it contains an important message for believers. David begins the Psalm by saying how good it is for the brethren to dwell together in unity. He describes it as a precious ointment on the head of Aaron. The ointment ran down onto his beard and finally onto the skirts of his garment.
He also describes unity as the dew that descended on Mount Zion. David is trying to tell us how important it is that we, as Christians, walk in unity with one another. It is a witness to those around us for us to walk in unity.
The Apostle Paul reminds us of the importance of unity and peace among believers in Ephesians 4:1-6, “I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”
In Philippians 2:1-4 we are reminded to be likeminded and of one accord which is another way of saying we are to be in unity with one another. “If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”
Romans 15:5-6 tells us that we are to conduct ourselves in this way in order to bring glory to God. “Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The enemy is always trying to stir something up among believers in the church. He knows if he can cause conflict in the church it will hinder us from doing our God-given duty to reach others. Instead of bickering and fussing over all the little things we don’t agree on, we need come to an agreement and walk in unity with one another.

1 [[A Song of degrees of David.]] Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;
3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.
Things to think about:
- What does it mean to you to walk in unity with fellow believers?
- How do you think it makes God feel if we are unified?
- In what ways does it make you feel much better if you don’t have a conflict with other believers?
Prayer of the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 133 where David exhorts us to walk in unity with one another. Help us to abide by this Scripture and be unified in the body of Christ. Help us to love one another in spite of our differences. Help us to forgive one another and bear each other’s burdens. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.
The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.
This part of the book of Psalms contains fifteen of the Songs of degrees. They were the songs or chants that the people of Israel sang as they journeyed to Jerusalem. It also contains some of the Psalms of David.
The Book of Psalms: Part 5 Chapters 120-150 contains thirty-eight Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
