Daily Bible Reading “Are You in Balance” (Proverbs 11:1-6)

Are You in Balance

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 11:1-6. Proverbs 11 warns us that a deceitful balance is disgusting to the LORD: but an accurate weight is his delight. It pleases God when we are honest in our dealings with others. Being dishonest is an abomination to Him.

There are many who are wicked in their business dealings. They use false weights to measure their goods and overcharge people for what they purchase from them. It does not please God if we do such things.

When pride comes, then comes shame: but wisdom comes with humility. Being prideful is a disgrace to the LORD. Jesus was the best example of humility for us. He was the Savior of the world, but He was a humble man.

The Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:1-3, “I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

The integrity of the righteous will guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors will destroy them.

Riches are worthless in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivers from death.

Our worldly possessions will do us no good when we stand before God to account for ourselves. Some of the most important things in life can’t be bought such as: happiness, peace, love, or eternal life.

The righteousness of the mature will direct his way: but the lawless will fall because of his own wickedness.

We can work our fingers to the bones trying to gain wealth only to have to leave it here when our time is up on earth.

The righteousness of the upright will deliver them: but transgressors will be taken in their own naughtiness.

Have you ever felt out of balance? Some of the things we are learning in Proverbs may help you to get your life in balance. Reading and studying the Bible will help you to realize what is important to God and what He detests.

No matter how hard we try we can’t be righteous on our own accord. Jesus died to bring us righteousness. He covered our sins on the cross with His blood. In order for us to be righteous before God we must ask God to forgive us of our sins and accept Jesus as our Savior.

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 11:1-6

1 A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.
2 When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
4 Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.
5 The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.
6 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.

Things to think about:

  •  What does this Scripture say is the result of pride?
  • When will it not serve us to have wealth?
  • What is the only thing that can deliver us at death? How?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in the book of Proverbs we are reminded of things that are important to You and warned of things that disgust You. Help us to walk in Your ways and live according to Your Word. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Heart Check-up” (Proverbs 10:27-32)

 A Clean Heart Heart Check-up

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 10:27-32. We are told in this Scripture that the fear of the LORD increases our days: but the years of the wicked will be shortened. The fear of the LORD begins in our heart. Many times people shorten their lives by the way they choose to live.

The hope of the righteous is gladness: but the expectation of the wicked will perish.

The way of the LORD is strength to those of integrity: but destruction will come to those who cause trouble.

The righteous will never be removed: but the wicked will not inhabit the earth.

The mouth of the just speaks wisdom: but the perverse tongue will be cut out.

The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaks forwardness.

The Bible says those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, and blasphemy (See Matthew 15:18-20).

Have you ever noticed how some people’s mouth sounds like a garbage can and other people seem to exude honey? Most of us probably are somewhere between the two of them, but we can learn a lot about what’s going on with a person by how they speak.

As believers, we need to put a guard on our lips. The enemy would like nothing better than for us to speak in ways that are not pleasing to God. We may cause others to stumble if our speech is not pleasing to God.

If we have trouble in this area we need to do a heart check-up to see if something is going on in our heart that we need to ask God to forgive us.

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 10:27-32

27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
29 The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
30 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
31 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.

Things to think about:

  • Why are the lives of those who are evil shortened?
  • Why can the righteous be glad?
  • In what ways does the LORD give us strength?
  • Have you done a heart check-up lately?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in Proverbs we are reminded of the difference between those who fear the LORD and those who choose a life of sin. Help us to keep a guard over our mouths that we may glorify You in all that we say and do. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Good vs Evil” (Proverbs 10:23-26)

Good vs Evil

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 10:23-26. Have you ever noticed how some people seem to enjoy doing evil things while others delight in wisdom? This Scripture tells us it is like a sport to a fool to do evil: but a person with understanding delights in wisdom. Have you noticed how much people who are wise seem to enjoy learning?

The fear of the wicked will overtake him: but the desire of the righteous will be granted.

Psalm 37:4 tells us, “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Like the storm passes, the wicked are swept away: but the righteous have an eternal foundation.

As believers, our foundation is firmly planted in the promises of God. We have the promise not only of life on this earth, but eternal life in heaven.

Sluggards are like vinegar to the mouth, and smoke in the eyes, to those who send them.

It is left up to each one of us to choose whether we will be wise or whether we will walk the treacherous path of the foolish. Which way do you choose to live your life?

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 10:23-26

23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
25 As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

Things to think about:

  • Why do some people seem to enjoy doing evil?
  • How do those who are wicked respond to fear?
  • Why do the righteous have an eternal foundation?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture and continue to learn the difference between righteous people and wicked people we can see that the major difference is their belief in You. Those who are believers are made righteous by Your Son. Help us to make You proud of the people we are becoming. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “The Blessing of the LORD Enriches Lives” (Proverbs 10:18-22)

The Blessing of the LORD Enriches Lives

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 10:18-22. This Scripture tells us that those who conceal hatred with lying lips, and those who whisper words of slander, are foolish. The abundance of words causes sin: but those who learn to control their mouth are wise. Do you consider yourself to be wise?

The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver: but the heart of the wicked is worthless. The words of the righteous teach many: but fools die because they lack wisdom.

The blessing of the LORD enriches the lives of those who choose to follow Him, and He adds no hardship with it.

We can choose to use our words for good or for evil. Those who are wicked tell evil lies about other people. They run their mouth and speak profanely. Sometimes people act like they think it makes them sound important when they talk trash, but it really shows their lack of knowledge.

Even as believers we can find ourselves griping and complaining and using our mouth to spread gossip if we don’t keep a check on our language and our attitudes.

As believers, we should use our mouth to speak words of encouragement to others. We should use our mouth to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to this lost and dying world.

We can use Scripture to combat the enemy when he attacks us with negative thoughts. We need to fill our spirits up with enough good until it flows out of our mouths and floods out the bad.

One of my favorite Scriptures that reminds me to keep a check my thought process is Philippians 4:8 which says, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

We can use this Scripture as a measure and if our thoughts don’t measure up to this Scripture then we need to cast them aside. We may even have to go so far as to say no or leave me alone when those negative thoughts come our way. It helps. Believe me, I’ve tried it.

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 10:18-22

18 He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.
19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

Things to think about:

  • In what ways can we use our mouths for good?
  • Who uses their mouth for evil?
  • How can we gain control over our speech?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in Proverbs we see the difference between the way wicked people speak and the way righteous people should use their mouths for good. Help us to keep a guard on our lips and speak good and not evil. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Which Path Do You Choose” (Proverbs 10:9-17)

Proverbs 10 Which Path Do You Choose 2roadsWhich Path Do You Choose

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 10:9-17. In this Scripture, we learn the difference between those who walk in integrity and those who walk the path of corruption. Those who walk in integrity walk securely: but those who choose to walk the path of corruption will be known for their ways.

Those who wink the eye cause pain: but a boastful fool will fall.

The mouth of a righteous person is a source of life: but violence comes from the mouth of the wicked person.

Hatred stirs up contention: but love covers all sins.

Wisdom is found in the mouth of those who have understanding: but a rod is for the back of those who lack understanding.

Wise people treasure knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish person is close to ruin.

The rich person’s wealth is their strength: but the destruction of the poor person is their poverty.

The labor of the righteous person leads to life: but the fruit of the wicked person leads to sin.

Those on the path of life pay attention to instruction: but those who refuse correction will be led astray.

We have to choose which path of life we will travel. The choices and decisions we make every day determine our path of life and our destiny.

I’m sure you know people who walk on the righteous path and some who travel on the foolish path. Think about how their lives differ. Which path have you chosen?

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 10:9-17

9 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
10 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.
11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.
14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
15 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
17 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.

Things to think about:

  • What does the ways of the righteous person lead to?
  • What does the ways of the foolish lead to?
  • Which path of life have you chosen and why?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in Proverbs we see some of the differences of those who choose the righteous path and those who choose the foolish path. Help us to make right choices every day of our life. Help us to always choose to walk on the righteous path. Help us not to make foolish decisions. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
