The Fear of the LORD
Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 19:23-29. In this Scripture, we are told that the fear of the LORD tends to life: and those who have it will be satisfied; they won’t be visited with evil. What does it mean to have the fear of the LORD?
I don’t believe that it means we are to be afraid of the LORD. I think it means we should reverence Him, respect Him and honor Him. Like a child should respect and honor their parents we should show our respect to the LORD. We should honor Him as an authority in our lives.
A lazy person hides their hand in their bowl, and will not even bring it to their mouth again.
Strike a scorner and the simple will beware: but reprove one who has understanding, and they will learn from it.
One who trashes their father and chases away their mother is a child who causes shame and brings reproach.
We are also reminded in this Scripture that we should not listen to any information that leads us away from the truth of the Word of God.
An dishonest witness mocks justice: and the mouth of the wicked scoffs at wickedness.
Judgments are prepared for mockers and a beating for the back of fools.
Those who fear the LORD are more likely to attempt to live right and not bring shame or disgrace to their family or to the LORD.
Daily Bible Reading:
Proverbs 19:23-29
23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
Things to think about:
- How does having the fear of the LORD affect our life?
- What does a child do that is disobedient to their parents?
- What does this Scripture say about a lazy person?
Prayer of the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
As we read this Scripture in the book of Proverbs we are reminded that the fear of the LORD tends to life and those who have it will be satisfied. Help us to fear and reverence You as our heavenly Father. Lead, guide, and direct in our lives. Help us to be what You would have us to be. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

The Book of Psalms: Part 1 Chapters 1-30
by Deborah H. Bateman
About the book:
The Book of Psalms Part 1 Chapters 1-30 by Deborah H. Bateman is part of the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Deborah divided The Book of Psalms into five books to make it easier to read and study. Each book will contain approximately thirty chapters from the book of Psalms.
Psalm 119 has already published a book about it called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet. The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from the enemies.
The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.
The Book of Psalms Part 1 Chapters 1-30 contains thirty-one Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or groups.
