Thanksgiving –
Give Thanks to God in Everything
Paul tells them to give thanks in everything. This is hard to do in the natural man, because when trouble comes our way the first thing we ask is why God, why me? God wants us to trust Him and praise Him no matter what the circumstances of our lives. The only way this is possible is through the Holy Spirit living in us.
That doesn’t mean we might not be sad or concerned about our circumstances. But, we can still praise God for who He is and for His Son, and the gift of salvation that He offered us. God loves you. He knows what is going on in your life and He cares about you.
Paul says not to worry, but pray and give thanks to God and the peace of God will keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Then, in verse 8 he tells them to think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praise. This is good advice for us today. It is hard to be negative if we are praying, praising God, and thinking on good things.
As you spend time with your family for the Thanksgiving holiday, keep these things in mind and make a point to thank God for your family and for all that He has provided for you. May God bless you and your family and may you have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Daily Bible Reading:
Philippians 4: 4-9
4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Things to think about:
- How can we keep our thoughts in check?
- What are some ways we can communicate our concerns to God?
- What are some things we can always be thankful for no matter what is going on in our lives?
Prayer of the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We rejoice in You, Lord. Help us not to worry about things, but to come to You with prayer and thanksgiving. Help us to keep our minds on things that are good and know You are in control, no matter what is going on in our lives. We love You, LORD In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
