Hear My Cry, Oh LORD

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 28:1-9.  Psalm 28 is a Psalm of David. David cries out to the LORD asking Him not to be silent. David refers to the LORD as his rock. What does that mean? The rock signifies a firm foundation, something to stand on. Those of us who are Christians can stand on the rock of our salvation.

David wanted to make sure the LORD heard his cries for help. Have you ever prayed to God and wondered if He heard your prayers? Not only did David want God to hear his prayers, but he wanted God to answer his prayers. He wanted God to protect him from the enemy.

David declares that the LORD is his strength and shield. He says his heart trusts in God. The LORD hears David’s cries for help and delivers him in his time of need. David rejoices and sings praises to the LORD.

David asks the LORD to save His people and bless their inheritance. He asks God to feed them and lift them up forever. David acknowledges God as the saving strength of His anointed. Do you pray for all of God’s people as well as for yourself?

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 28:1-9

1 [[A Psalm of David.]] Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.
2 Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle.
3 Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts.
4 Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavours: give them after the work of their hands; render to them their desert.
5 Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up.
6 Blessed be the LORD, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications.
7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
8 The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.
9 Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever.

• How does David refer to the LORD in this Psalm?
• What is David’s concern in this Scripture?
• In verses 8-9, who is David most likely talking about?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this Scripture in the book of Psalms. In this Scripture David refers to You as his rock, his shield, and his strength. Help us to lean on You as our rock, our shield and our strength. Thank You that we can come to You not only in times of great need, but in our everyday life, with our cares and concerns. Help us to learn to cast our cares on You instead of trying to carry them on our own. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from the enemies.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

The Book of Psalms Part 1 Chapters 1-30 contains thirty-one Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day.
