Give God Glory
Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 29:1-11. Psalm 29 is a Psalm of David. In Psalm 29 David gives a description of a storm. We all go through different storms in our lives. David starts by giving glory to the LORD. He realizes the LORD’S strength is greater than any storm we may face in life. David honors the Lord by reminding us to worship the LORD. Why does David worship and praise the LORD in the midst of the storm?
Have you ever been in the midst of a thunderstorm where the thunder was so loud it felt like it shook the earth? Think about some of the lightning that you have witnessed where it looked like it shot all the way to the ground. Many times lightning has caused fires. This is the kind of storm that David is talking about. He describes all these things as the LORD’S voice.
David talks about the strength of the LORD’S voice. The voice of the LORD is powerful and majestic. This is a severe storm. There is thunder, and lightning. The winds are so strong it breaks the cedars. Obviously, the lightening causes fires to break out, because David says, “The voice of the LORD divideth the flames of fire.” The voice of the LORD shook the wilderness. It caused the cattle to give birth.
Notice how David says, “In his temple doth every one speak of his glory.” Have you ever noticed how in times of trouble people turn to God? We should not have to wait until there is a storm of life or a tragedy to worship God. He wants us to have a relationship with Him all the time, not just when we are in trouble.
Even during the storms of our lives and when tragic things happen to us, there are good things that come out of these situations. Many sad and tragic things happen in this world. There may be lives lost and families affected by the loss. In the midst of troubled times, we need to pull together and support one another. God can take things that the enemy meant for evil and make good come out of it. Many times tragic events cause us to fall to our knees and worship God.
God doesn’t always make the storm go away, but He will carry us through. He will comfort those who are going through the storms of life. He will provide for those who go through the storm. Even during the tough times of our lives, we have to remember that God is in control. If you don’t know about the grace of God through having Jesus Christ as your Savior, why not ask Him into your life today? He will help you get through the storms of life.
As we mourn the losses in our lives, let’s pull together and pray for one another. Instead of letting the tragedies of life scar us for the rest of our lives, let’s somehow find the good that comes out of it. Let’s ask God how He would like us to use these events in our lives to help others. Everything happens for a reason, even though we don’t know or understand why sometimes. Let’s stand together, pray and give God the glory for one another. May God bless you!

1 [[A Psalm of David.]] Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength.
2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
3 The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters.
4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
5 The voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars; yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.
7 The voice of the LORD divideth the flames of fire.
8 The voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness; the LORD shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.
9 The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests: and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory.
10 The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever.
11 The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.
Things to think about:
- In this Scripture what does David encourage us to do?
- What are some of the things David says the voice of the LORD does?
- How has God helped you through the storms of your life?
Prayer of the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 29. We thank You that in this Scripture we see where David praised and worshiped You in the midst of the storm. We all go through storms in our lives. Help us to worship and praise You in the midst of those storms as David did. Help us to find the good that came out of the tragic events of our lives. Help us to give You glory for the good that came from these storms of our lives. Comfort those who have experienced loss during this time. Help us to honor and worship You in our lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray. We love You, LORD. Amen.

by Deborah H. Bateman
About the book:
The Book of Psalms: Part 1 Chapters 1-30 by Deborah H. Bateman is part of the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Deborah divided The Book of Psalms into five books to make it easier to read and study. Each book will contain approximately thirty chapters from the book of Psalms.
Psalm 119 will not be included in The Book of Psalms since Deborah has already published a book about it called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet. The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from the enemies.
The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.
The Book of Psalms Part 1 Chapters 1-30 contains thirty-one Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or groups.
