Noah Offered Sacrifices

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Genesis 8:13-22. In the first month of the year, on the first day of the month, in the 601^st year the waters were dried up on the earth. Noah removed the covering from the ark, and looked out, and the ground was dry.

In the second month, on the 27^th day of the month, God spoke to Noah, saying, “Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.”

God told Noah to bring with him every living thing that was in the ark with him, including his family, the fowl, cattle, and all the creeping things. Noah did as the LORD requested and took his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives with him. They also took all the beasts, every fowl, and all the creeping things that creep on the earth, after their kinds and they all left the ark.

One of the first things Noah did was build an altar and offered burnt sacrifices to the LORD. He took from every clean beast and from every clean fowl and offered them on the altar. Noah knew what the requirements were for the sacrifices and he picked the best he had to offer for the sacrifices. The LORD was pleased with Noah’s offering.

The LORD smelled a sweet savor; and the LORD said in his heart, “I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.”

God made a promise that as long as the earth remains, there will be seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.

The ark was a refuge for Noah, his family, and the animals during the storm. Now that the flood was over and the earth was dry again, they were allowed to leave the ark.

Noah and his family may have been excited to leave the ark, but they also had no idea what the future held or what they were going to face when they stepped off the ark. God encouraged them to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth.

Genesis 8:13-22

13 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.

14 And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.

15 And God spake unto Noah, saying,

16 Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.

17 Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.

18 And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him:

19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.

20 And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Things to think about:

How do you think Noah and his family felt about leaving the ark?

What was God’s response to the flood?

What did God encourage Noah, his family, and the animals to do?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we study these Scriptures we see that Noah and his family were kept safe from the storm until the flood waters were gone and the earth was dry again. Thank You for the promise that You made that this would never happen again. Help us to have the kind of faith that Noah had in You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

This part of the book of Psalms contains fifteen of the Songs of degrees. They were the songs or chants that the people of Israel sang as they journeyed to Jerusalem. It also contains some of the Psalms of David.

The Book of Psalms: Part 5 Chapters 120-150 contains thirty-eight Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.

God Remembered Noah

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Genesis 8:1-12. God remembered Noah, and all others, including the animals that were in the ark with him. God caused a wind to blow over the earth, and the waters subsided.

Both the fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain ceased to fall from heaven. The waters reverted from the earth continuously: and at the end of 150 days the waters were halted.

The ark rested on the mountains of Ararat on the seventeenth day of the seventh month. The waters continued to diminish until the tenth month. By the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains were visible.

At the end of forty days, Noah opened the window of the ark that he made and sent out a raven, which flew back and forth, until the waters were dried up on the earth.

He also sent out a dove from the ark, to see if the waters had decreased on the ground; but the dove found no place to rest the sole of her foot, so she returned to Noah and the ark. The water still covered the whole earth: so Noah reached out his hand, and took the dove, and pulled her back into the ark.

After another seven days Noah sent the dove out the window of the ark again. The dove returned to him in the evening; and, lo and behold, there was a freshly picked olive leaf in her mouth: by this Noah knew that the waters no longer covered the earth. Noah waited another seven days; and sent the dove out again; but she never returned to him again.

Genesis 8:1-12

1 And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;

2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;

3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.

4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.

6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:

7 And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.

8 Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;

9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.

10 And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark;

11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.

12 And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.
