Even in Judgment His Mercy Endures Forever
Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 136:10-16. This Scripture talks about God’s judgment on Egypt and His provision and protection for the children of Israel.
We’re reminded how He brought the children of Israel out of Egypt and established them as His people. This refers back to Exodus 20:2 which says, “I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.”
It also talks about God’s judgment and the miracle He performed by dividing the Red Sea and letting the children of Israel pass through it. Exodus 14:16 tells us, “But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.”
He then overthrew Pharaoh and his armies with the same waters of the Red Sea as mentioned in Exodus 3-6, “The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. Pharaoh’s chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea.
The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone. Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.”
This Scripture also reminds us of how God led the children of Israel through the wilderness. Exodus 13:18, “But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.”
In this Scripture we are reminded of God’s provision and His protection for His children. Sometimes the battles of life are too big for us to fight alone. Do you trust God to provide for you and protect you?

10 To him that smote Egypt in their firstborn: for his mercy endureth for ever:
11 And brought out Israel from among them: for his mercy endureth for ever:
12 With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm: for his mercy endureth for ever.
13 To him which divided the Red sea into parts: for his mercy endureth for ever:
14 And made Israel to pass through the midst of it: for his mercy endureth for ever:
15 But overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red sea: for his mercy endureth for ever.
16 To him which led his people through the wilderness: for his mercy endureth for ever.
Things to think about:
- Why were the firstborn of Egypt smote, or struck by God?
- Why were the children of Israel brought out of Egypt?
- Can you imagine being there when God parted the Red Sea?
Prayer of the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for this Scripture from Psalm 136. We see Your mercy throughout the Bible for Your children, but we also see Your judgment on their enemies. Help us to trust in Your provision and protection in our lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Psalm 119 was published in a book called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet. The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.
The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.
This part of the book of Psalms contains fifteen of the Songs of degrees. They were the songs or chants that the people of Israel sang as they journeyed to Jerusalem. It also contains some of the Psalms of David.
The Book of Psalms: Part 5 Chapters 120-150 contains thirty-eight Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
