Daily Bible Reading “Know the Love of Christ” (Ephesians 3:13-21)

Know the Love of Christ

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Ephesians 3:13-21. In this Scripture, Paul tells the Ephesians not to be discouraged because he was in prison. It was for their honor and glory he was suffering. Would you be discouraged if your leader was in prison?

Paul says, “For this cause I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the creator of everything in heaven and earth.” This shows Paul’s humility and reverence to God.

Paul’s desire for them was that God would give them inner strength by His Spirit through the riches of God’s glory. His prayer was that Christ would dwell in their hearts by faith as they put their trust in Him. He wanted them to be rooted and grounded in love. His prayer for them was that they would be able to understand, as all Christians should, how high, how wide, how long, and how deep is God’s love for us. He also desired that they know the love of Christ, which passes all knowledge, and be filled with the fullness of God.

Paul gives glory to God who is able to do more than we could ever imagine by His power at work in us. He prayed that God be given glory in the church forever through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Paul didn’t try to take glory or honor for anything he did. He made sure whatever he did he gave the glory to God and to Jesus Christ. Paul realized without God he was nothing and he could do nothing without the power of God living in him.

Paul loved the Ephesians, but he knew God loved them even more and he wanted them to understand and know the love of God.

I love this Scripture. As you read this Scripture, this is my prayer for you. I pray God would allow you by the riches of His glory to be strong with His might by His Spirit in your inner man. I pray Christ would dwell in your heart by faith and you would be rooted and grounded in love.

I pray you might be able to comprehend the vastness of Christ’s love for you, even though it surpasses our knowledge. My prayers for you are that you would be filled with the love of God and know in your heart He is able to do much more than we can ask or think, by the power of God that works in us. To God is the glory forever.

Daily Bible Reading:

Ephesians 3:13-21

13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.

14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;

17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Things to think about:

  • Do you think we can comprehend how much God loves us?
  • Does reading this Scripture lift your spirit?
  • Have you experienced the immeasurable love of God?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear God,

Thank You for this Scripture in Ephesians where Paul is praising and glorifying You.  Help us get a glimpse into how much You love us. We give You praise, honor, and glory for all You do for us. We thank You for the wonderful plan You had for us from the beginning of time. In Jesus’ name, we pray. We love You, LORD. Amen.

Bible Verse to Journal or Memorize:

And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. – Ephesians 3:19

Daily Bible Reading “God Loves Us” ( John 3:16-17)

God Loves Us

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from John 3:16-17. In this Scripture, we are told of the greatest love of all. We can’t possibly imagine how much God loves us. Think about the sacrifice He made when He gave His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for us.

We find this in John 3:16-17, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

For those of you who are parents, can you imagine giving your only son’s life for people you didn’t even have a relationship with? I know this was part of God’s plan, but I hope as we think about it as parents we can see what an awesome sacrifice this was. Both Jesus and God made this sacrifice so we could have eternal life.

There may be some parents who may relate to this better than most of us, those who have lost their children fighting in combat to give freedom to the rest of us. I recently went to a funeral of a soldier that I knew from my hometown. It was so sad for me. I can’t imagine how grieved the parents must have been. I am sure it grieved God’s heart to sacrifice His Son’s life.

God didn’t send His Son into this world to condemn us of our sins, but to save us from our sins. See, God knows us better than anybody and He knew we would never be able to keep the laws of God in our own human nature. So He gave His Son, Jesus, as the sacrifice for our sins.

God showed His love for us, because while we were still sinners He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die for us. Romans 5:8 tell us, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Because of Adam and Eve’s fall, back in the Garden of Eden, we were all born into sin. God acclaimed His love for us by having Christ die for us before we were ever born so He could take our place and pay the price for our sins. Have you accepted this love gift of salvation God provided for you?

Things to think about:

  • Where would we be if it weren’t for Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross?
  • Are you thankful for Jesus’ sacrifice?
  • Do you thank God for loving us so much?
  • Do you share God’s love with others?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear God,

We thank You for this Scripture in the Bible that tells us how much You love us. We realize it was an awesome sacrifice for You to give Your only Son Jesus’ life for our sins. We thank You for the sacrifice You made on our behalf. We thank You for having a plan for us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “The Love of God” (Romans 5:1-9)

The Love of God

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Romans 5:1-9. In this Scripture, we are told if we have accepted Jesus as our Savior, we are justified by faith and have peace with God through Jesus. Do you have peace with God?

Some of you may not know you didn’t have peace with God. Through Adam’s disobedience to God back in the Garden of Eden sin entered into the world, so we were all born into sin. There is nothing we can do to rationalize our sin. But we don’t have to remain in sin, because God sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sins on the cross.

God, through His grace, gave us the free gift of salvation. All we have to do is believe and receive it. The Scripture says because of this we can glory in our tribulations. Tribulations (trials) bring patience, patience brings experience, and through experience we find hope in the Lord. Do you find it hard to find joy in your tribulations?

Tribulations=Patience=Experience=Hope

The love of God is then in our hearts through the Holy Spirit that God gives to us when we accept Jesus as our Savior. God showed His great love for us by having His Son, Jesus; shed His blood on the cross to cover our sins. Do you know the love of God?

Daily Bible Reading:

Romans 5:1-9

1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Things to think about:

  • Have you been justified by faith to God through His Son, Jesus?
  • Did you realize you could glory in your tribulations?
  • What are the results of tribulations?
  • How do we get the love of God in our hearts?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear God,

We thank You for Your love for us. We thank You for Your Son, Jesus, who died on the cross to cover our sins. We thank You that we can be justified though our faith in Him. We thank You that we can have peace with You, through Jesus. Help us to accept Your gracious gift. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Love the LORD Your God with All Your Heart” (Deuteronomy 6:1-25)

 Love the LORD Your God with All Your Heart

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Deuteronomy 6:1-25. In this Scripture, Moses is talking to the children of Israel, although this speech is ancient, the advice is timeless and quite applicable to our lives today. Moses reminds the Israelites they should love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, and might. This is the greatest commandment. Even though we no longer live under the law, but under grace, we still need to love God in this way.

Moses tells the people these words should be in their hearts. They should teach them to their children and they should talk about them all the time. Moses warned them not to forget God after He blessed them and gave them the Promised Land. We need to be careful of this also. Sometimes when we’re in trouble we grow close to God then, after He answers our prayers and blesses us, we tend to forget about Him.

Moses says God is a jealous God and that they are to have no other gods besides Him. We have to be careful in our lives not to put other things or other people before God. He has blessed us with homes, jobs, and families, but we have to make sure not to put any of them before Him.

How do we get to the point where we love God with all our heart, soul, and might? First of all, we have to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

Then, we need to study the Bible and hide His Word in our hearts so we don’t sin against Him. Teach it to our children, and talk about His Word all the time, just as Moses told the Israelites to do.

We also need to talk to Him daily through prayer. Developing a relationship with God and Jesus is similar to developing a relationship with any other person.

We have to spend time with them, talking and listening to them. Then we will develop a close personal relationship with God.

Daily Bible Reading:

Deuteronomy 6:1-25

1 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:
2 That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
10 And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
11 And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
12 Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
13 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.
14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;
15 (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
16 Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
17 Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.
18 And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,
19 To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.
20 And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?
21 Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh’s bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:
22 And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:
23 And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.
24 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.
25 And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.

Things to think about:

  • How can we apply this Scripture to our lives today?
  • How is your relationship with the LORD?
  • How can studying the Bible daily help us learn more about God and develop a close personal relationship with Him?
  • How can talking and listening to God daily through prayer help our relationship with God?
  • What are some ways we can share the Word of God with your children and grandchildren?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear God,

Thank You for this Scripture which reminds us to love You with all our heart, soul, and might. Help us to do that. Help us to read and study Your Word and to teach it to our children and grandchildren. Help us not to put anything or anybody ahead of You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. We love You, LORD. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Give Thanks to God for Your Faith and Love” (1 Thessalonians 3:1-13)

Give Thanks to God for Your Faith and Love

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from 1 Thessalonians 3:1-13. This is part of the letter that Paul wrote to the church at Thessalonica, which today is the second-largest city in Greece. In this chapter, Paul talks about the faith of the people. Paul, Silas, and Timothy had been driven out of Thessalonica and when they could no longer stand not knowing how the people were doing; they sent Timothy back to check on the people there.

Paul had ministered to these people and he had great concern for them that they would continue in the faith and not be tempted by the devil to give up on their beliefs. Paul didn’t want the people to be discouraged because of all the trials they had been through.

Trials in our life help us see what is going on in our hearts. When we are going through trying times, it is a time when we can grow even closer to God, if we allow it. We can learn to depend on God and trust Him to see us through the tough times in life. We can’t comfort others unless we have been through some tough times ourselves.

Paul felt comforted when Timothy came back with a good report from the Thessalonians. Timothy let him know they had kept the faith. Paul said he prayed for them day and night. Paul gives thanks to God for them and the joy he had in knowing they were strong in their faith.  They were staying true to the things of God that Paul had taught them.

Daily Bible Reading:

1 Thessalonians 3:1-13

1 Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone;
2 And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:
3 That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.
4 For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.
5 For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
6 But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:
7 Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith:
8 For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.
9 For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;
10 Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
11 Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.
12 And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
13 To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

Things to think about:

  • What would it be like to be persecuted because of your faith?
  • How can we make our faith known to others?
  • In what ways can we show charity (love) to other people?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the comfort You give us, especially when we are going through tough times.  Help us to keep the faith and know You work all things out for our good and Your glory. Help us to increase in our love for one another, and toward all people. Establish our hearts to be blameless in holiness before You. We love You, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
