Daily Bible Reading “Magnify Him with Thanksgiving” (Psalm 69:30-36

Magnify Him with Thanksgiving

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 69:30-36. This Scripture is part of a Psalm of David. In verse 30 David says, “I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.” We should not only give thanks and praise to God at Thanksgiving, but let’s remember to always praise God, magnify His holy name, and give thanks to Him always for everything. Every good and perfect gift we have comes from God.

We can show our appreciation to God by singing praises to Him and spending time studying His Word and praying to Him. When we lift our voices and take time out of our busy schedules to spend time alone with God in prayer we show Him we love Him and are thankful for everything He does for us. It pleases the LORD.

Think about how it makes you feel when your children honor you as their parents and are thankful for what you do for them. God is our heavenly Father. It must make Him feel happy when we honor Him and show gratitude towards Him.

In verse 34 David proclaims, “Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein.” If all of creation can praise and honor God, then we need to make sure we do our part in praising Him and giving Him glory, praise and honor for who He is and for everything He provides for us.


Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 69:30-36

30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.
31 This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.
32 The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.
33 For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.
34 Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein.
35 For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.
36 The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.

 

Things to think about:

  • What are some ways we can give thanks and praise to God?
  • Where do the good things of life come from?
  • How can we show our appreciation for all God has done for us?


Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We want to praise Your name and magnify You with thanksgiving, for all You are and all You have provided for us. Help us to remember that every good gift and every perfect gift comes from You. We love You, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Dwelling in the Secret Place” (Psalm 91:1-15)

Dwelling in the Secret Place

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 91:1-15. I love the first verse of this chapter, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” The Psalmist declares that the LORD is his refuge and fortress. He trusts God to deliver him from the enemy. Have you put your trust in God?

The Psalmist tells us we can be secure under the wings of God. We can trust in His truth. We don’t have to be afraid. God is our protector. If we stay close to God we will be protected from the snares of the enemy. God puts His angels in charge of caring for His children.

Luke 13:34 says, ”O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!”

Compare our safety as believers to that of a baby bird who is in the nest with its mother. The mother bird protects her baby and holds it close to her in the nest until the baby is old enough to fly on its own. God holds us close to Him. He protects us from the snares of the enemy. He covers us with His wings.

If we make God our habitation He will defend us. Those of us who love God and know His name will be delivered from the enemy. We can call on God anytime day or night and He will help us when we are in trouble. If we turn our lives over to God completely, He will take care of us.

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 91:1-15

1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

 

Things to think about:

  • In what ways do you consider God as being your refuge?
  • How does it make you feel to know that you are in the shadow of God’s wings?
  • Did you realize if you are a believer that God’s angels protect you? How does that make you feel?
  • How does it make you feel to know God is available any time day or night for you to call on?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 91, where the Psalmist assures us if we, as believers, put our complete faith and trust in You, You will protect us from the enemy. We can find peace and refuge under the shadow of Your wings. Help us to draw near to You and put our complete faith and trust in You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Blessed Be the LORD” (Psalm 89:42-52)

Blessed Be the LORD

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 89:42-52. Have you ever felt like God deserted you? The Psalmist continues to question God as to why He turned His back on David. He knew the promises God made to David and couldn’t understand why David was having so much trouble in his life. He seemed to forget about David’s rebellion.

Sometimes when we look at our circumstances we might question if God deserted us also. When things don’t seem to be going so well and it looks like the enemy is winning the battle, we have to be careful not to get discouraged. If we get our eyes off of God and start looking at our circumstances we can easily be distracted. If we let our guard down it will give the enemy the upper hand.

It’s important when we are going through difficult times that we keep your focus on God and His promises. Even if things don’t seem to be going in the right direction, when we keep our focus on God it will give us strength to get through the battles of life. Notice that even though the Psalmist questions God he still praises God in the last verse of this chapter when he says, “Blessed be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen.”

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 89:42-52

42 Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
43 Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.
44 Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.
45 The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.
46 How long, LORD? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn like fire?
47 Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?
48 What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.
49 Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, which thou swarest unto David in thy truth?
50 Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people;
51 Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O LORD; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.
52 Blessed be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen.

 

Things to think about:

  • What happens when you focus solely on your circumstances?
  • Have you ever felt like God deserted you?
  • What do you consider to be the battles in your life today?
  • How do you recognize and deal with the enemy in your life?
  • How does keeping your focus on God help you get through these trying times?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 89:42-52, where the Psalmist praises You even though he questions the circumstances. Help us to remember we can count on You. Help us to keep our focus on You instead of our circumstances. Give us strength to withstand the battles of this life. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “A Prayer of Moses” (Psalm 90:1-17)

A Prayer of Moses

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 90:1-17. Psalm 90 is a prayer of Moses. Yes, that Moses, the one-time murdering Egyptian prince, Exodus, Ten-Commandment Moses. Did you know his Praises/Psalms were included in the book of Psalms? Moses was a man of God. God used him to lead His people. Moses started this Psalm acknowledging God as our eternal dwelling place. He reminds the people that even before the world was created God existed.

In Revelation 1:8 God says, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” A thousand years in God’s eyes is like a day, which is hard for us to comprehend.

The Bible tells us that God created man from the dust of the earth and when we die we will return to the earth. Scientists are always studying and trying to find out where man came from. It is amazing to me when you hear a lot of them talk they finally, after going through all their investigation, acknowledge God’s creation of man such as in this article by Francis Collins: A Scientific Basis for God.

Moses talks about the flood and how God destroyed humanity because of their disobedience. Moses questioned God about how long He would pour out His wrath on them. Moses was a great leader and was concerned for the people.

In this life we’ll have trouble. We’ll have to suffer loss and disappointment. Those who aren’t believers don’t have any hope. They turn to all kinds of things to try to deal with the things of this life.

Believers have the hope of the return of Christ and have God to lean on when trouble comes in their lives. Moses saw a lot of trouble in his life and he longed for God to return and shine the beauty of the LORD on them and establish the work of their hands.

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 90:1-17

1 [[A Prayer of Moses the man of God.]] Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
3 Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.
4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.
6 In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.
7 For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.
8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.
10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
11 Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.
12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
13 Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.
14 O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.
16 Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.
17 And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

  • What does Moses say the Lord has been to the people?
  • What was Moses’ concern?
  • In what ways do you relate to Moses’ prayer?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 90, where Moses acknowledged You as being his dwelling place. LORD, we thank You that as believers You are our dwelling place. We have You and the promises of Your Word to hold onto. You give us the strength we need to face the trials of life. Help us to always be grateful to You for Your love and mercy. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Forever God is Faithful” (Psalm 89:33-41)

Forever God is Faithful

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 89:33-41. The Psalmist reminds God of His promises to David. God promised to be faithful to David and show His loving-kindness toward him. He promised not to break His covenant with David. God promised His seed to endure forever.

All these promises God made to David, but the Psalmist was concerned about the trouble David was going through at the time. He couldn’t understand why David seemed to be cast away from God. The Psalmist questions why God had broken His covenant with David. Why has David become a reproach to his neighbors? There were times in David’s life when he was disobedient to God and it caused turmoil in his life.

Remember the Psalmist doesn’t know what we know today, that Jesus came out of the seed of David, which means David’s seed will last forever as God promised. Jesus sits on the right hand of God on His throne. We may fail God, but God’s promises will never fail. He is faithful.

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 89:33-41

33 Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
34 My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
35 Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.
36 His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.
37 It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.
38 But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.
39 Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.
40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.
41 All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.

 

Things to think about:

  • What are some of the promises of God we can rely on?
  • Why does the Psalmist think God has turned His back on David and forsaken His promises to him?
  • What makes you believe God is faithful?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 89, where the Psalmist reminds us of Your promises to David. Help us to know that Your promises stand. We can count on You to be faithful to us. Help us to be obedient and stand by our promises to You. Forgive us of the times we have failed You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
