Daily Bible Reading “Knowledge” (Proverbs 12:1-4)

proverbs_12_1Knowledge

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 12:1-4. This Scripture tells us whoever loves instruction loves knowledge: but those who hate correction are foolish.

Through God’s Word we can find the knowledge and instruction we need to live a victorious life. If we ignore His principles and go about living our own way we will not find victory.

The Scripture says that those who seek to live good godly lives will find favor with the LORD, but those who scheme and choose to live wicked lives will be condemned.

We are reminded that no one can be established by wickedness: but the source of the righteous will not be moved.

The righteous will be rooted and grounded in the Word of God. They will stand strong when the storms of life come their way. But those who choose to live a wicked lifestyle won’t have anything to hold to when the storms of life come their way.

We are told that a virtuous woman is a blessing to her husband: but a wife who lives vicariously and causes her husband shame is like decay in his body.

God has called us to be strong women of faith who strive to live godly lives even as the enemy tries everything in his power to bring us down. We have to hold on to Jesus and gather our strength from Him to help us fight the battles of this life.

The Bible reminds us, “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2).

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 12:1-4

1 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
2 A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.
3 A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

Things to think about:

  • How can knowledge and instruction help us to live victorious lives?
  • What happens to those who despise instruction?
  • How does being rooted and grounded in the Word of God help us to live victoriously?
  • What is a virtuous woman to her husband?
  • What does a shameful woman do to her husband?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in the book of Proverbs we realize that there are those who love knowledge and instruction and there are those who detest it. Help us to realize that through Your Word we can find the knowledge and instruction that we need to live a victorious life. Give us the strength we need when the toils of life come against us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “How Will You Live” (Proverbs 11:7-15)

Proverbs 11 way-of-life-imageHow Will You Live

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 11:7-15. In this Scripture, we are reminded that when a wicked person dies their hope and expectation perishes with them. But, when a righteous person dies they have the hope of eternal life. The way you live in this life and the choices you make will determine your future. How will you live?

The righteous person is delivered from trouble, and the wicked ones come instead.

A hypocrite destroys their neighbor with their mouth: but the righteous are delivered through knowledge.

The city celebrates when things go well for those who are righteous: and it rejoices when wicked people perish.

A city is exalted by the blessing of its citizens who are upright: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

Those who lack wisdom despise their neighbor: but a person of understanding holds their peace.

A person who gossips reveals secrets: but those who have a faithful spirit conceal the matter. Have you ever known someone who you couldn’t tell anything unless you wanted it to be shared with the whole world?

The people fall where there is no counsel: but in a multitude of counselors there is safety. Sometimes we need advice. We should seek good counsel. We can always talk to God about what is going on in our lives and He won’t gossip about us with anyone else.

One who puts up security for a stranger will suffer because of it: but those who refuse to do so are safe. Have you ever signed a note for someone and the deal went bad because they were unable to pay? We had a lesson about the dangers of doing this earlier in Proverbs.

Which one of these groups of people best describes you? How will you live? Have you chosen to live the way of the world or have you chosen to accept Jesus as your Savior and live the way of the righteous?

Jesus loves you and He is willing and waiting to forgive you of your sins and cleanse your heart of all unrighteousness. He can make your heart clean and pure. All you have to do is repent of your sins and ask Him to forgive you and come into your heart and life today.

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 11:7-15

7 When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.
8 The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.
9 An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.
10 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.
11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
12 He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.
13 A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
15 He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure.

Things to think about:

  • What is the difference between a wicked person’s death and a righteous person’s death?
  • What is the difference between the way a wicked person treats their neighbor and the way a righteous person treats their neighbor?
  • To whom should you tell a secret?
  • Why should you never sign a note for a stranger?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in the book of Proverbs we learn about the people we can trust and the people whom we can’t trust. Help us to be wise in our dealings with others. Help us to set good examples as to the way believers should interact with other people. Forgive us of any of the ways we have failed You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Are You in Balance” (Proverbs 11:1-6)

Are You in Balance

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 11:1-6. Proverbs 11 warns us that a deceitful balance is disgusting to the LORD: but an accurate weight is his delight. It pleases God when we are honest in our dealings with others. Being dishonest is an abomination to Him.

There are many who are wicked in their business dealings. They use false weights to measure their goods and overcharge people for what they purchase from them. It does not please God if we do such things.

When pride comes, then comes shame: but wisdom comes with humility. Being prideful is a disgrace to the LORD. Jesus was the best example of humility for us. He was the Savior of the world, but He was a humble man.

The Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:1-3, “I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

The integrity of the righteous will guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors will destroy them.

Riches are worthless in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivers from death.

Our worldly possessions will do us no good when we stand before God to account for ourselves. Some of the most important things in life can’t be bought such as: happiness, peace, love, or eternal life.

The righteousness of the mature will direct his way: but the lawless will fall because of his own wickedness.

We can work our fingers to the bones trying to gain wealth only to have to leave it here when our time is up on earth.

The righteousness of the upright will deliver them: but transgressors will be taken in their own naughtiness.

Have you ever felt out of balance? Some of the things we are learning in Proverbs may help you to get your life in balance. Reading and studying the Bible will help you to realize what is important to God and what He detests.

No matter how hard we try we can’t be righteous on our own accord. Jesus died to bring us righteousness. He covered our sins on the cross with His blood. In order for us to be righteous before God we must ask God to forgive us of our sins and accept Jesus as our Savior.

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 11:1-6

1 A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.
2 When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
4 Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.
5 The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.
6 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.

Things to think about:

  •  What does this Scripture say is the result of pride?
  • When will it not serve us to have wealth?
  • What is the only thing that can deliver us at death? How?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in the book of Proverbs we are reminded of things that are important to You and warned of things that disgust You. Help us to walk in Your ways and live according to Your Word. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Heart Check-up” (Proverbs 10:27-32)

 A Clean Heart Heart Check-up

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 10:27-32. We are told in this Scripture that the fear of the LORD increases our days: but the years of the wicked will be shortened. The fear of the LORD begins in our heart. Many times people shorten their lives by the way they choose to live.

The hope of the righteous is gladness: but the expectation of the wicked will perish.

The way of the LORD is strength to those of integrity: but destruction will come to those who cause trouble.

The righteous will never be removed: but the wicked will not inhabit the earth.

The mouth of the just speaks wisdom: but the perverse tongue will be cut out.

The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaks forwardness.

The Bible says those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, and blasphemy (See Matthew 15:18-20).

Have you ever noticed how some people’s mouth sounds like a garbage can and other people seem to exude honey? Most of us probably are somewhere between the two of them, but we can learn a lot about what’s going on with a person by how they speak.

As believers, we need to put a guard on our lips. The enemy would like nothing better than for us to speak in ways that are not pleasing to God. We may cause others to stumble if our speech is not pleasing to God.

If we have trouble in this area we need to do a heart check-up to see if something is going on in our heart that we need to ask God to forgive us.

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 10:27-32

27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
29 The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
30 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
31 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.

Things to think about:

  • Why are the lives of those who are evil shortened?
  • Why can the righteous be glad?
  • In what ways does the LORD give us strength?
  • Have you done a heart check-up lately?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in Proverbs we are reminded of the difference between those who fear the LORD and those who choose a life of sin. Help us to keep a guard over our mouths that we may glorify You in all that we say and do. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Good vs Evil” (Proverbs 10:23-26)

Good vs Evil

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 10:23-26. Have you ever noticed how some people seem to enjoy doing evil things while others delight in wisdom? This Scripture tells us it is like a sport to a fool to do evil: but a person with understanding delights in wisdom. Have you noticed how much people who are wise seem to enjoy learning?

The fear of the wicked will overtake him: but the desire of the righteous will be granted.

Psalm 37:4 tells us, “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Like the storm passes, the wicked are swept away: but the righteous have an eternal foundation.

As believers, our foundation is firmly planted in the promises of God. We have the promise not only of life on this earth, but eternal life in heaven.

Sluggards are like vinegar to the mouth, and smoke in the eyes, to those who send them.

It is left up to each one of us to choose whether we will be wise or whether we will walk the treacherous path of the foolish. Which way do you choose to live your life?

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 10:23-26

23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
25 As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

Things to think about:

  • Why do some people seem to enjoy doing evil?
  • How do those who are wicked respond to fear?
  • Why do the righteous have an eternal foundation?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture and continue to learn the difference between righteous people and wicked people we can see that the major difference is their belief in You. Those who are believers are made righteous by Your Son. Help us to make You proud of the people we are becoming. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
