Daily Bible Reading “O How I Love Thy Law” (Psalm 119:97-104)

O How I Love Thy Law

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 119:97-104. This portion of Scripture from Psalm 119 starts with MEM, the thirteenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet. MEM represents the letter M, but looks similar to the English letter N. MEM’s numerical value is 40, and is said to represent water.

The Psalmist declares his love for the law of God and says he meditates on it all day. Because of his love and study of the commandments of the LORD, he has become wiser than his enemies. He has obtained more wisdom and knowledge than all of his teachers, because his meditation is on the testimonies of the LORD.

He has more understanding than the ancient men of old, because he not only studies the precepts of God, but obeys them as well. He has kept away from every evil way and hasn’t departed from the judgments God has taught him. Through studying and meditating on the precepts of the LORD he has gained understanding, so he hates every false teaching. He knows the truth and it has set him free from evil.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 119:97-104

97 MEM. O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

98 Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.

99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.

100 I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.

101 I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.

102 I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.

103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

Things to Think About:

  • Do you love the Word of God?
  • Have you obtained wisdom, knowledge, and understanding through studying the word of the LORD?
  • Do you find meditating on the Word of God helps keep you from evil?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 119, where the Psalmist tells us how much he loves Your word and how meditating on Your word has given him wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Help us to study and meditate on Your word daily, that we might obtain wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
