Daily Bible Reading “I Hope in Thy Word” (Psalm 119:81-88)

I Hope in Thy Word

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 119:81-88. This portion of Scripture in Psalm 119 starts with CAPH, the eleventh letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The Psalmist’ soul is fainting as he waits on the salvation of the LORD, but he finds hope in God’s Word. He is in desperate need of comforting. He feels like a bottle in the smoke, yet still he remembers the statutes of the LORD.

He wants to know how long before the LORD will call judgment to come on those who persecute him. He is getting tired and weary. His enemies have dug pits for him that are not in line with the laws of God. He knows God’s Word is faithful, but he cries out for help to the LORD to deliver him from his enemies, so he can keep the testimony of God’s mouth.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 119:81-88

81 CAPH. My soul fainteth for thy salvation: but I hope in thy word.

82 Mine eyes fail for thy word, saying, When wilt thou comfort me?

83 For I am become like a bottle in the smoke; yet do I not forget thy statutes.

84 How many are the days of thy servant? when wilt thou execute judgment on them that persecute me?

85 The proud have digged pits for me, which are not after thy law.

86 All thy commandments are faithful: they persecute me wrongfully; help thou me.

87 They had almost consumed me upon earth; but I forsook not thy precepts.

88 Quicken me after thy lovingkindness; so shall I keep the testimony of thy mouth.

Things to Think About:

  • Have you ever felt like you could not hang on until God delivered you?
  • Have you ever been desperate for God’s comfort?
  • Has anyone ever tried to cause you to stumble, by digging pits for you that were not after the laws of God?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 119, where the Psalmist reminds us to call out to You in our times of trouble. He reminds us to hold onto the promises of Your word. Help us to be faithful to hold onto Your word no matter what comes our way. Give us strength to hold our ground when the enemy attacks, and help us hold on until You bring deliverance. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
