Daily Bible Reading “I Find Hope in God’s Word” (Psalm 119:113-120)

I Find Hope in God’s Word

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 119:113-120. This portion of Scripture begins with SAMECH, the fifteenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet. SAMECH represents the letter S and has the numeric value of 60.

The Psalmist admits that he has vain thoughts, like the rest of us, but proclaims his love for the law of God. He declares that God is his hiding place and his shield and he finds hope in the Word of God.

He demands the evildoers to depart from him and exclaims that he will keep the commandments of his God. He begs God to hold him up, protect him, and not let him be ashamed of the hope he has found in His word.

The Psalmist declares that the LORD rejects those who stray from His statutes, and puts the wicked away like dross, because of their vain deceit. The Psalmist respects the LORD and is fearful of His judgments, but he loves the LORD and honors His word.

Remember when you were a child how you loved your parents, but you also respected them and were fearful of their discipline when you were disobedient. This reminds me of what the Psalmist is saying about how he feels about the LORD; he loves the LORD, but also has a healthy respect for Him and is in awe of His judgments and power.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 119:113-120

113 SAMECH. I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love.

114 Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.

115 Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God.

116 Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope.

117 Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto thy statutes continually.

118 Thou hast trodden down all them that err from thy statutes: for their deceit is falsehood.

119 Thou puttest away all the wicked of the earth like dross: therefore I love thy testimonies.

120 My flesh trembleth for fear of thee; and I am afraid of thy judgments.

Things to Think About:

  • Do you find hope in the word of the LORD?
  • Do you look to God to be your protection from the enemy?
  • Do you love and respect the LORD, but also have a healthy fear of His judgments and power?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank Your for this Scripture in Psalm 119, where the Psalmist declares his love for Your word, but reminds us of Your judgment and power. Help us to love You, but also respect Your judgment and power. Help us to honor and obey Your word. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Verse:
