Generosity
Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 11:24-31. This Scripture reminds us that there are those who give generously, and yet they prosper even more; and there are those who are greedy, and it leads them to poverty.
The blessed soul will become prosperous: and those who pour into others will be filled also. Those who share the gospel with others God will provide ways for them to be filled as well. If we are continually pouring out ourselves into others and never get filled up we won’t be able to continue pouring into the lives of others. Eventually our reserves we would become empty. There has to be a constant refilling of our Spirit in order for us to be able to refresh others.
Those who are stingy and withhold corn, the people will curse: but blessing will be on those who are willing to sell it.
Have you ever noticed how farmers plow their field and don’t glean it completely, but leave some behind for the poor and needy? These people are blessed not only by the crops they sell, but also because they care for those in need.
Those who diligently seek good procure favor: but those who seek evil, it will come to them.
If we seek good we will find favor with God and man, but if we look for trouble we are sure to find it.
Those who trust in their riches will fall: but the righteous will flourish like a growing branch.
We can’t trust in our riches because they may be taken away. But when we put our faith and trust in God we will prosper in our soul and in our life.
Those who cause trouble in their own house will only inherit the wind: and the fool will be a servant to the wise of heart.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and those who win souls are wise.
Those who are righteous will be rewarded in the earth: even more the wicked and the sinner will reap the consequences of their sin and wickedness.
Much of this Scripture is about generosity. One of my favorite Scriptures that teaches about the benefits of being generous is Luke 6:38, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”
Daily Bible Reading:
Proverbs 11:24-31
24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.
25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
26 He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.
27 He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.
28 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.
29 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
31 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.
Things to think about:
- How are those who are generous rewarded?
- How are the righteous rewarded?
- What are the results for those who are wicked?
Prayer of the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
As we read this Scripture in Proverbs we see that we all get our just rewards whether they be good reward for righteous living or the consequences of our sin and ungodly living. Help us to walk in Your ways and win souls for the kingdom. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
