Blessed is He who Fears the LORD
Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 112:1-10. The Psalmist begins Psalm 112 by saying, “Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.” He will be mighty on the earth. He will be blessed with wealth and riches. His righteousness endures forever.
He is gracious, compassionate, and lends to others. He guides his affairs with discretion. He is not afraid because he trusts in the LORD. He is generous and gives to the poor. He will be exalted with honor. The wicked will see how God honors him for his righteousness and will be grieved.
Daily Bible Reading:
Psalm 112:1-10
1 Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
4 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
5 A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.
6 Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.
7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
8 His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.
9 He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.
10 The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.
Things to think about:
- What are the traits of the person who fears the LORD?
- What are some of the acts of kindness shown in this Psalm?
- How will the wicked respond to God honoring the righteous person?
Prayer of the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 112 where the Psalmist reminds us about the one who fears the LORD. The Psalmist shows the character traits of this person and how he helps those in need. He also shows us how You honor him for his righteousness. Help us to fear You and trust You to lead in our lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

About the book:
The Book of Psalms: Part 4 Chapters 91-118 by Deborah H. Bateman is the 29th book in the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Deborah divided The Book of Psalms into five books to make it easier to read and study. Each book contains approximately thirty chapters from the book of Psalms.
Psalm 119 has already been published in a book called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet. The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.
The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.
The Book of Psalms: Part 4 Chapters 91-118 contains thirty-six Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
