Daily Bible Reading “The LORD Won’t Forsake His Saints” (Psalm 37:21-30)

The LORD Won’t Forsake His Saints

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 37:21-30. In Psalm 37:21-30 David says, the wicked borrow, but don’t repay, but the righteous give of their resources. The righteous are blessed by God and will inherit the earth, but the wicked will be cut off.

The steps of a good man are led by the LORD, and he delights in his way. Even if he falls, he won’t be cast down, because the LORD holds him up. David exclaims he has never seen the righteous forsaken or begging for bread.

Righteous people will take part of what they have and share with those who are less fortunate. They take joy in being able to help feed the poor and needy. Wicked people are usually more selfish and self-centered. Their only concern is for themselves. They don’t care if they hurt other people.

The righteous man is generous and his seed is blessed by God. He exhorts us to do good and depart from evil. The LORD won’t forsake His saints. He tells us the righteous man speaks of wisdom and judgment.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 37:21-30

21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.
22 For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.
23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.
27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.
28 For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.
30 The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.

Things to think about:

  • What are some of the characteristics of a righteous person in this Scripture?
  • What are some of the characteristics of the wicked person in this Scripture?
  • If you are a Christian, what are some of the things you can look forward to according to this Scripture?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this Scripture from Psalms, that reminds us of Your love, leadership, and direction of Your children. Help us to stay connected to You and Your blessings on our lives. Help us to study Your Word so we can make wise decisions. Bless us, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth” (Psalm 37:11-20)

The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 37:11-20. In Psalm 37:11 David says the meek will inherit the earth and will delight in the abundance of peace. He reminds us the wicked plot against the just person. What does David mean by that statement? Is he saying the wicked physically attack the just? Or, is he saying the wicked attack the just with his words? Either way, David says the LORD laughs at them because He knows their day is coming.

David says their sword will penetrate their own hearts and their bows will be broken. David reminds us the little that a righteous man owns in this world is better than the riches of the wicked person. The arms of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous.

The LORD knows the days of the upright and their inheritance is eternal. Those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior have inherited eternal life.

God takes care of His children. He says even though there may be a famine, the righteous will be satisfied. On the other hand, David says, the wicked will perish as the fat of lambs that is consumed by the fire.

As believers we can take comfort in this Scripture by focusing on the good things David says about those who belong to the LORD. We can also take comfort in knowing we don’t have to worry about our enemies because in due time they will get their just reward.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 37:11-20

11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
12 The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.
13 The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.
14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.
15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.
16 A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the LORD upholdeth the righteous.
18 The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.
19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

Things to think about:

  • What does this Scripture say will happen to the meek?
  • What does this Scripture say will happen to the wicked?
  • Which category do you consider yourself to be in and why?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture where David reminds us that You take care of Your children. You know everything about us and You watch over and protect us from our enemies. Help us to always be faithful to You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Delight in the LORD” (Psalm 37:1-10)

Delight in the LORD

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 37:1-10. Psalm 37 is a Psalm of David. David reminds us not to get frustrated, aggravated or envious of evil doers. They will be cut down and wither away like the grass. They may seem to prosper, but their evil ways will catch up with them. Are there things in your life that make you so enraged that you almost can’t control your actions? What can we do, as believers, to combat this attitude?

Instead, David exhorts us to trust in the LORD, and do good and He will give us the desires of our hearts. He will change the desires of our hearts to line up with His desires. We are reminded to delight ourselves in the LORD, and trust in Him. When we delight ourselves in the LORD, our attitude will change. When we commit our ways to the LORD, He will bless us.

David tells us to rest in the LORD and wait patiently; we will get our just reward. Do you find it hard sometimes to wait patiently on the LORD?

We need to avoid being angry and keep ourselves from expressing our wrath. We shouldn’t let our passions cause us to do evil things. Evil doers will be cut off, but those who wait on the LORD will inherit the earth. The wicked will be destroyed, but those who put their trust and faith in the LORD will be rewarded.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 37:1-10

1 [[[A Psalm] of David.]] Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.
10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

Things to think about:

  • In what ways do you trust in the LORD?
  • In what ways do you delight in the LORD?
  • How have you committed your life to the LORD?
  • How do you find rest in the LORD?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture in this Psalm of David. Through this Scripture we see if we follow God and commit ourselves to You our lives will be blessed. Help us to stay away from evil and to trust our lives to You. Help us to delight in You and allow You to change our hearts and our lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “How Excellent is Thy Loving-kindness, O God!” (Psalm 36:1-12)

How Excellent is Thy Loving-kindness,

O God!

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 36:1-12. Psalm 36 is a Psalm of David to the Chief Musician, which means it was probably used as a song of worship.

David talks about the wicked who have an evil nature in their heart. Wicked people have no fear, or reverence, of God. They speak evil and tell lies. They are not wise nor do they do good. They are blinded to their own sinful nature. Even when the wicked lie in their beds they devise evil. What a graphic description of the sinful man!

It almost seems like David is comparing the evil man to God. Because after describing all the evil attributes of the wicked man, David talks about all the good attributes of God. God’s righteousness is like the mighty mountain. God’s faithfulness reaches to the clouds. We can depend on Him to always be there for us.

God preserves and protects both man and beast. His loving-kindness toward us is immeasurable. We can trust Him and rest under the shadow of His wings. God is the fountain of life. From Him flow rivers of living water. Drink from His well so your soul will never thirst.

David asks God not to let the foot of pride come against him. This may be a prayer that we need to say, as well. We need to pray asking the LORD to remove our pride.
David asks God to protect him from the hand of the wicked, and he declares that the “workers of iniquity” will be defeated.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 36:1-12

1 [[To the Chief Musician, [A Psalm] of David the servant of the LORD.]] The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.
2 For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful.
3 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good.
4 He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.
5 Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.
6 Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast.
7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.
10 O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me.
12 There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.

Things to think about:

  • What does David say about the wicked?
  • What does David say about God?
  • How do the attributes of the wicked compare with the attributes of God?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Psalm of David, where he seems to compare the evil man to You. There is no comparison; these descriptions are at opposite ends of the spectrum. You are holy, righteous, loving, and merciful, but, the wicked are evil, liars, and cheaters. LORD, we thank You for Your loving-kindness toward us. Help us to love, worship and praise You for all You are and all You do for us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Plead My Cause, O LORD” (Psalm 35:1-28)

Plead My Cause, O LORD

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 35:1-28. Psalm 35 is a Psalm of David where he is talking to the Lord about his enemies. He turns them over to God, rather than trying to fight the battle for himself. David hid for ten years in caves. There were people talking bad about him, even though he prayed for them when they were sick. Has anything like this ever happened to you?

Have you ever tried to be good to people and do everything you could for them, but they turned their back on you?

David was a big strong man, but he was heartbroken. He couldn’t understand why God would let something like this happen. Even though we wonder why sometimes, God sees and knows everything that is going on in our lives. He knows our heartaches. He feels our pain. We have to trust God to handle the situation in His timing.

We would like everything to be resolved instantly, but sometimes it takes time to heal the hurts in our lives. David asks God to deliver him from his enemies.

We have to be careful when things like this are going on in our lives, and not to try to take them in our own hands. We have to be patient and wait on the Lord. Sometimes the LORD may send others to rescue us from a situation.

Once you pray and ask God to help with an issue, be on the lookout for his answer. He may answer your prayer in a way you never expected.

Even though David was going through this trying time, he still was praised the LORD. Do you find it difficult to praise the LORD in the midst of turmoil in your life? If we can somehow get our minds off the circumstances of life and keep our focus on the LORD and His goodness to us we can live happier, more fulfilled lives.

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 35:1-28

1 A Psalm of David. Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.
2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.
3 Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.
4 Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.
5 Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them.
6 Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.
7 For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.
8 Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.
9 And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation.
10 All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?
11 False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not.
12 They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul.
13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.
14 I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother.
15 But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:
16 With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.
17 Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.
18 I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people.
19 Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.
20 For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.
21 Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.
22 This thou hast seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me.
23 Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord.
24 Judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me.
25 Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.
26 Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.
27 Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
28 And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.

Things to think about:

  • Have you ever asked God to plead your cause like David did?
  • Has anyone ever wrongly accused you?
  • Has anyone ever talked badly about you, with no just cause?
  • How do you handle these kinds of situations?
  • Did you do like David and turn it over to the LORD, or did you try to handle it yourself?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Please help us to turn our problems and those who say bad things about us over to You. Help us to know You will take care of it and all we have to do is to keep serving You and thanking You for what You are doing in our lives. Help us to love people in spite of their actions. In Jesus’ name, we pray. We love You, LORD. Amen.
