Harvest Time is Coming
Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 11:16-23. This Scripture tells us that a gracious woman retains her honor: and strong men retain their riches.
Those who are merciful do good to their own soul: but cruel people cause trouble even to their own body.
Wicked people do dishonest work: but those who sow righteousness will gain a sure reward.
Like righteousness attains life: so those who pursue evil pursue it to their own demise.
Those who have a perverse heart are repulsive to the LORD: but He delights in those who are upright in their way.
Though hands join in hand, the wicked won’t go unpunished: but the seed of the righteous will be delivered.
A beautiful woman who shows no discretion is like a piece of gold jewelry in a pig’s snout.
The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
The Bible says in Galatians 6:7-8 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”
This Scripture sums it up for us good. What we sow we will reap. Just as a gardener can’t sow corn seed and expect to reap beans. We can’t sow evil and expect to receive good things. If we sow wickedness we will reap wicked things, but if we sow righteously we will be rewarded greatly.
Daily Bible Reading:
Proverbs 11:16-23
16 A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.
17 The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.
18 The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.
19 As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.
20 They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.
21 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
22 As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.
23 The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
Things to think about:
- What does this Scripture say about a gracious woman?
- What is the difference between a person who is merciful and a person who is cruel?
- What does this Scripture say about a woman who doesn’t show discretion?
- What can we learn from the law of sowing and reaping?
Prayer of the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
As we read and study this Scripture in the book of Proverbs we see that there are definite differences in the way the righteous do things and the way the wicked do things. Each one gets their just rewards. Help us to sow good works of righteousness so we will have a good harvest. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
