Which Path Do You Choose

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 10:9-17. In this Scripture, we learn the difference between those who walk in integrity and those who walk the path of corruption. Those who walk in integrity walk securely: but those who choose to walk the path of corruption will be known for their ways.

Those who wink the eye cause pain: but a boastful fool will fall.

The mouth of a righteous person is a source of life: but violence comes from the mouth of the wicked person.

Hatred stirs up contention: but love covers all sins.

Wisdom is found in the mouth of those who have understanding: but a rod is for the back of those who lack understanding.

Wise people treasure knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish person is close to ruin.

The rich person’s wealth is their strength: but the destruction of the poor person is their poverty.

The labor of the righteous person leads to life: but the fruit of the wicked person leads to sin.

Those on the path of life pay attention to instruction: but those who refuse correction will be led astray.

We have to choose which path of life we will travel. The choices and decisions we make every day determine our path of life and our destiny.

I’m sure you know people who walk on the righteous path and some who travel on the foolish path. Think about how their lives differ. Which path have you chosen?

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 10:9-17

9 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
10 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.
11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.
14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
15 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
17 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.

Things to think about:

What does the ways of the righteous person lead to?
What does the ways of the foolish lead to?
Which path of life have you chosen and why?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in Proverbs we see some of the differences of those who choose the righteous path and those who choose the foolish path. Help us to make right choices every day of our life. Help us to always choose to walk on the righteous path. Help us not to make foolish decisions. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

A Wise Son Makes a Glad Father

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 10:1-8. In this Scripture, we are reminded that this is the proverbs of Solomon. Solomon says, “A wise son makes a glad father: but a foolish son is the sorrow of his mother. Treasures of wickedness will profit you nothing: but righteousness delivers from death.”

The LORD will not allow the soul of the righteous person to be hungry: but he casts away the desire of the wicked one.

Those who deal with a deceitful hand become poor: but the hand of the diligent person prospers.

A wise son gathers in summer: but one who sleeps during harvest causes shame.

Blessings are bestowed on the head of the righteous: but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

The memory of the just person is blessed: but the name of the wicked person will decompose. The wise person in heart will receive instructions: but a loud mouth fool will fall.

Notice how Solomon compares the wise person and the foolish person. The wise person receives the blessings of God and the foolish person falls into destruction.

Daily Bible Reading:

Proverbs 10:1-8

1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.

3 The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.

4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

6 Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

Things to think about:

What is the difference between a wise child and a foolish son or daughter?
Who is it that gathers in harvest?
What happens to those who are too lazy to gather in the time of harvest?
What are some of the other comparisons mentioned between the wise person and the foolish person?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture where Solomon compares a wise person with a wicked person help us to realize the difference. Help us to be wise and diligent. Help us not to be as those who are wicked. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Creation Day Four” (Genesis 1:14-19)

Creation Day Four

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Genesis 1:14-19. On the fourth day of creation, God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so.

God created two great lights: the bigger light to rule the day, and the smaller light to rule the night. He created the stars as well. God fixed these lights in the heavens to provide light to the earth. He created the sun to rule over the day and the moon to rule over the night. Their purpose was to divide the light from the darkness. God looked at His creation and saw that it was good. The evening and morning were the fourth day.

There is nothing more beautiful than a sun-shiny day, or a moon lit night with all the stars shining in the sky.

Psalm 19:6 speaks of the sun, “Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the other end; And there is nothing hidden from its heat.”

Psalm 104:19 speaks of both the moon and the sun, “He appointed the moon for seasons; The sun knows its going down.”

Psalm 147:4 tells us that God knows all the stars by name, “He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.” Can you imagine? I sometimes have trouble remembering the names of people who I know, much less all the stars. If He knows the stars by name, what does He know about us?

We find this promise in Genesis 8:22, “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter, and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.”

Daily Bible Reading:

Genesis 1:14-19

Things to think about:

What did God create on the fourth day?

What was the purpose of His creation?

Can you imagine God knowing the name of all the stars?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this passage of Scripture we are in awe at Your creation. We are reminded of all the beauty You created when creating the world and everything in it. We are also reminded that You are all-knowing. Help us to look around and be thankful for for everything You created. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

The Book of Psalms: Part 5 Chapters 120-150 by Deborah H. Bateman is 30th book in the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Deborah divided The Book of Psalms into five books to make it easier to read and study. Each book contains approximately thirty chapters from the book of Psalms.

Psalm 119 has been published in a book about it called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet. The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

This part of the book of Psalms contains fifteen of the Songs of degrees. They were the songs or chants that the people of Israel sang as they journeyed to Jerusalem. It also contains some of the Psalms of David.

Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. Daily Bible Reading “Creation Day Three” (Genesis 1:9-13)

Creation Day Three

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Genesis 1:9-13. On the third day of creation, God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so.” God called the dry land “Earth,” and He called the gathering together of the waters “Seas.” God separated the water from the dry land. Do you ever wonder how the earth looked then compared to how it looks now? God liked what He saw and thought that it was good.

Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so.

The earth brought forth grass, herbs yielding seed after its kind, and trees that yield fruit, whose seed is in it after its kind. God saw that it was good. This is the first sign of life on earth. Notice how each plant or tree had the seed within it or its fruit in order to reproduce. Think about all the different plants, grasses, and trees there are in the world. What an incredible task! The evening and morning were the third day.

Now we have the earth, sea, and vegetation. Again notice the order in which God created these things. He had to bring forth the earth, before He created the vegetation, so the plants and trees would have a place to grow.

Psalm 95:5 says, “The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.” Personally, I love the ocean. It is one of my favorite places. I love the sound of the waves crashing to shore. I love to look at the horizon. It seems as if it goes on forever.

Job 26:7 tells us, “He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.” It is amazing how the earth hangs in space.

Daily Bible Reading:

Genesis 1:9-13

9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.

Things to think about:

How did God create the land?

Once the land was separated from the water, what was His next creation?

What was significant about the vegetation He created?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We are in awe, as we read this passage and see how you separated the land and sea. Then, You created vegetation of all kinds. Help us to have faith in Your omnipotent power. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
