Make a Joyful Noise to the LORD

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 98:1-9. The Psalmist encourages us to sing to the LORD because of His marvelous works. He is victorious. The LORD showed forth His righteousness to the heathen and has made His salvation known to the ends of the earth. He remembers His promises of mercy and truth toward Israel.

The Psalmist reminds us to make a joyful noise to the LORD by singing, praising, and worshiping Him through singing songs of praise and worship. He also encourages us to play beautiful music to the LORD with all the musical instruments.
The Psalmist declares that the whole world and all those who dwell on the earth will praise God. The sea roars with the beautiful music of the waves. The floods and the mountains declare that He is God. He is coming back to judge the world with His righteousness. He is a just God and will judge in spirit and truth. We are to praise His holy name.

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 98:1-9

1 [[A Psalm.]] O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.
2 The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.
3 He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
5 Sing unto the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.
6 With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.
7 Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
8 Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together
9 Before the LORD; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.

 

Things to think about:

  • What are some ways that we haven’t already mentioned that we can praise or honor the LORD?
  • Is praise to God considered a service to Him or a way of honoring Him?
  • Is praise something we do inside of ourselves or is it something that is visible to others? Could it be both?
  • What were God’s promises to Israel?How does the earth make a joyful noise to the LORD?
  • How will God judge the earth?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You that the Psalmist reminds us in Psalm 98 that You are worthy to be praised. Help us to find ways to make a joyful noise to You. Help us to acknowledge Your marvelous works. Help us to celebrate You and Your creation along with the birds, trees, waves, and other creatures of the earth. Lead, guide, and direct our lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “The LORD Reigns” (Psalm 97:1-12)

The LORD Reigns

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 97:1-12. The Psalmist reminds us to rejoice because the LORD reigns. His throne is surrounded with righteousness and judgment. His enemies are burned by the fire that goes before Him. Even the hills melt like wax at the presence of the LORD. The heavens declare His righteousness. His glory is shown throughout the earth.

Those who worship graven, or carved, images are put to shame. All of Zion and the daughters of Judah will rejoice because of God’s judgment. God is exalted high above the earth, higher than all the gods. Those who love the LORD hate evil. If we serve the LORD, study His Word, stay focused on Him, and express our love to Him we will learn to detest sin and the wickedness in this world. It is the LORD who preserves the souls of the saints and delivers them from wickedness.

Both light and gladness are sown for the righteous, those who are right in their hearts. The Psalmist ends this Psalm by reminding us to “Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.”

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 97:1-12

1 The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.
2 Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.
3 A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.
4 His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled.
5 The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
6 The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.
7 Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods.
8 Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O LORD.
9 For thou, LORD, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.
10 Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.
11 Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
12 Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

 

Things to think about:

  • How do you rejoice that the LORD reigns?
  • In what ways have you noticed that creation declares God’s righteousness?
  • What does the Psalmist say those who love the LORD hate? Why?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 97 where the Psalmist reminds us to rejoice in the LORD. Help us to rejoice because of Your righteousness. Thank You for delivering us from wickedness. Help us to hate evil and strive to live righteous lives, with Your help. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Sing to the LORD a New Song” (Psalm 96:1-13)

Sing to the LORD a New Song

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 96:1-13. In Psalm 96 the Psalmist reminds us to sing to the LORD a new song. He cries out for the whole earth to sing to the LORD and bless His name. We need to show His salvation daily by singing and praising Him and by declaring His glory and wonders to all people.

The Psalmist declares that the LORD is great and worthy to be praised. God should be feared above all the gods or idols. Many people worshiped idols made of bronze. We may have things in our lives today that would be considered idols. They might not be statues made of bronze, but there may be other things that we put in the place of God.

We should not let anything or anybody come between us and God. He is mighty. He is the creator of the whole world. We are encouraged to declare His honor, majesty, strength, and beauty. The Psalmist reminds us to give glory and strength to the LORD. He is worthy to be praised and honored. He is a holy, just God, who will judge the whole earth with His righteousness and truth.

The Psalmist even cries out for the heaven and earth to rejoice, and the seas to roar. He says to let the field and all the animals of the field rejoice. He tells the trees to rejoice at His holy name. If the birds can sing His praises, the waves roar, and the leaves of the trees declare His glory, how much more should we, as human beings, declare His glory? He is our coming King. He is coming to judge the world with righteousness and truth. Let the whole world praise and glorify His holy name.

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 96:1-13

1 O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.
2 Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day.
3 Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.
4 For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.
6 Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.
7 Give unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength.
8 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts.
9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.
10 Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.
11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof.
12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice
13 Before the LORD: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.

 

Things to think about:

  • Do you like to sing to the LORD? If so, what is your favorite song to sing to Him? If not, what are some other ways you like to praise His name?
  • What are some of the words the Psalmist uses in this Scripture to describe the LORD?
  • How does it make you feel when he says even the earth, seas, heavens, and fields will rejoice in the LORD?
  • Do you look forward to the LORD’S return? If so, in what ways can we prepare for His return?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 96, where the Psalmist reminds us to sing praises to Your holy name. He declares Your holiness, righteousness, majesty, strength, and glory. Help us to acknowledge all Your attributes. Help us to worship You in spirit and truth. Help us to look forward to Your return. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Thanksgiving

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 95:1-6. In Psalm 95 the Psalmist reminds us to sing to the Lord. He encourages us to make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. He tells us to come before His presence with thanksgiving.

When we hear the word “Thanksgiving,” we may think of the day in November when we in North America come together to celebrate with our families. In this instance it is a time of giving thanks to God for who He is and all He has done for us.

There are many ways we can give thanks to the LORD. We can sing praises to Him. We can play an instrument with songs of praise. We can read His Word and recite Scripture to Him. We can pray and thank Him for who He is and all He does. What are some other ways you may give thanks to God?

Why should we come before His presence with thanksgiving? The Lord is a great God and King. He is above all other gods. He is the creator of the earth. He made the seas and the dry land. He also created man in His own image. He is the rock of our salvation. He provided a way of forgiveness for us.

Let’s sing praises to Him and worship Him. Let’s bow down before Him and honor Him. Let’s come into His presence with thanksgiving showing Him the gratitude that we have in our hearts for who He is and all He has done for us.

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 95:1-6

1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

4 In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also.

5 The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.

6 O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You LORD, for You are the creator of the earth and all that is in it. You are a great God and King above all gods. You are our maker. You are the rock of our salvation. Help us to come before You with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto You with psalms and hymns of praise. We love You, LORD. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “God Is the Rock of My Refuge” (Psalm 94:12-23)

God Is the Rock of My Refuge

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 94:12-23. Blessed is the man the LORD chastens and teaches the ways of God. The LORD won’t cast off His people or forsake His inheritance. He judges according to righteousness and those who follow Him should follow after righteousness. The Psalmist questions, “Who will stand up for me against the wicked?”

The Psalmist acknowledges that if the LORD hadn’t helped him he wouldn’t have survived. When he was weak and losing hope God’s mercy held him up. He delights in the comfort of the LORD.

The Psalmist says, “The wicked gather together against the righteous and shed innocent blood.” He proclaims that the LORD is his defense and the rock of his refuge. The Psalmist had faith in God that He would defend him. He trusted that God would cause the enemy to be cut off by having their own iniquity come against them.

God is the same today, yesterday, and always. He never changes. God is the same that He was in the beginning and He will be the same until the end of time. We can count on Him. He is not going to change His mind. He will not leave us or forsake us. As the Psalmist trusted God, we can trust Him to be our defender, our rock, our refuge. God loves His children and He will defend them until the end.

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 94:12-23

12 Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law;

13 That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.

14 For the LORD will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.

15 But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.

16 Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?

17 Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

18 When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up.

19 In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.

20 Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?

21 They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.

22 But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.

23 And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the LORD our God shall cut them off.

 

Things to think about:

  • Do you think of God as your refuge? In what way?
  • In what ways do you trust God to take care of you?
  • Do you pray and ask God to help you when the enemy attacks? In what ways has He helped you?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for this Scripture where we are reminded that we can trust and depend on You to defend us against the enemy. You are our strength, when we are weak. You are our help in time of need. You will never leave us or forsake us. Help us to realize that You are always by our side. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
