Daily Bible Reading “God’s Covenant with Noah” (Genesis 9:8-19)

Genesis 9 13God’s Covenant with Noah

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Genesis 9:8-19. God told Noah and his sons that He was making a covenant with them and with every living creature that the earth would never be destroyed by a flood again.

God created a rainbow for Noah, his sons, and the rest of the world as a reminder of His covenant not to ever abolish the earth by flood again. So, every time you see a rainbow in the sky you can be reminded of the story of Noah and God’s promise to him.

Not only is the rainbow a reminder for us, but God said it was a reminder for Him of the covenant He made with Noah and all living creatures.

A covenant is a promise made between two parties. An example of a covenant is the wedding vows that two people share and exchange rings as a sign of that promise. If we make a promise to someone, we should keep it, but there may be instances when we don’t keep our promises.

A covenant between God and man is a divine ordinance with signs or pledges. God gave the rainbow as a sign of His covenant with Noah. When God makes a covenant with us, we can count on Him keeping His promise.

The earth was replenished by Noah’s three sons who were spared in the Ark with Noah. Noah’s sons were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham was the father of Canaan. How can several men replenish the whole earth?

Daily Bible Reading:

Genesis 9:8-19

8 And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,

9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;

10 And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.

11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.

12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:

13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:

15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.

16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

17 And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

18 And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan.

19 These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread.

Things to think about:

  • What was God’s covenant with Noah?
  • What did God give as a sign to remind us of His covenant with Noah?
  • What were Noah’s three sons’ names?
  • What was the role of Noah’s sons after the flood?
  • Who was the father of Canaan?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we study this Scripture and are reminded of the covenant You made with Noah and all living creatures we are grateful. Every time we see a rainbow we are reminded of Your covenant. Thanks for the beautiful reminder of Your love for us. Help us to show our love and appreciation to You for all You do for us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “God Blessed Noah” (Genesis 9:1-7)

Genes 9 1 God blessed NoahGod Blessed Noah

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Genesis 9:1-7. God blessed Noah and his sons, and told them to be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth.

God also told them that they would have dominion over the earth and every creature on the earth. He said that fear and dread would be on every beast of the earth, every fowl of the air, everything that moved on the earth and on all the fishes of the sea, because they had been delivered into their hands.

God informed Noah that every moving thing that lived on the earth would be food for them like the green herb. But God warned them that they were not to eat any living flesh while its blood was still in it.

God said that he would require the life of anyone who took another person’s life. If a wild beast killed a person, it must die. Anybody who sheds a man’s blood, his life will be taken, because God made man in His own image.

From the beginning man was God’s most prized creation. He made sure to take care of every need man had. He loved us then and He still loves us today and provides our needs. He’s a good Father.

God commanded Noah and his sons to be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth.

Daily Bible Reading:

Genesis 9:1-7

1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.

2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.

3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.

6 Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

7 And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.

Things to think about:

  • What authority did God give Noah and his sons?
  • What did God give Noah permission to eat?
  • What did God forbid Noah and his sons to eat?
  • What did God command Noah and his sons to do?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we study this passage we see that You blessed Noah and his sons and gave them dominion over the earth and every living thing on the earth. You also commanded them to be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth. Help us as we live in this earth to have respect for one another and all the creatures that You created. Help us to honor You in all that we do. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “Noah Offered Sacrifices” (Genesis 8:13-22)

Genesis 8 Sacrafice-Noah

Noah Offered Sacrifices

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Genesis 8:13-22. In the first month of the year, on the first day of the month, in the 601st year the waters were dried up on the earth. Noah removed the covering from the ark, and looked out, and the ground was dry.

In the second month, on the 27th day of the month, God spoke to Noah, saying, “Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.”

God told Noah to bring with him every living thing that was in the ark with him, including his family, the fowl, cattle, and all the creeping things. Noah did as the LORD requested and took his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives with him. They also took all the beasts, every fowl, and all the creeping things that creep on the earth, after their kinds and they all left the ark.

One of the first things Noah did was build an altar and offered burnt sacrifices to the LORD. He took from every clean beast and from every clean fowl and offered them on the altar. Noah knew what the requirements were for the sacrifices and he picked the best he had to offer for the sacrifices. The LORD was pleased with Noah’s offering.

The LORD smelled a sweet savor; and the LORD said in his heart, “I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.”

God made a promise that as long as the earth remains, there will be seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.

The ark was a refuge for Noah, his family, and the animals during the storm. Now that the flood was over and the earth was dry again, they were allowed to leave the ark.

Noah and his family may have been excited to leave the ark, but they also had no idea what the future held or what they were going to face when they stepped off the ark. God encouraged them to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth.

Daily Bible Reading:

Genesis 8:13-22

13 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.

14 And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.

15 And God spake unto Noah, saying,

16 Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.

17 Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.

18 And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him:

19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.

20 And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Things to think about:

  • How do you think Noah and his family felt about leaving the ark?
  • What was God’s response to the flood?
  • What did God encourage Noah, his family, and the animals to do?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we study these Scriptures we see that Noah and his family were kept safe from the storm until the flood waters were gone and the earth was dry again. Thank You for the promise that You made that this would never happen again. Help us to have the kind of faith that Noah had in You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

About the book:

The Book of Psalms: Part 5 Chapters 120-150 by Deborah H. Bateman is 30th book in the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Deborah divided The Book of Psalms into five books to make it easier to read and study. Each book contains approximately thirty chapters from the book of Psalms.

Psalm 119 will not be included in The Book of Psalms since Deborah has already published a book about it called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet. The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

This part of the book of Psalms contains fifteen of the Songs of degrees. They were the songs or chants that the people of Israel sang as they journeyed to Jerusalem. It also contains some of the Psalms of David.

The Book of Psalms: Part 5 Chapters 120-150 contains thirty-eight Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Daily Bible Reading “God Remembered Noah” (Genesis 8:1-12)

Genesis 8 1

God Remembered Noah

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Genesis 8:1-12. God remembered Noah, and all others, including the animals that were in the ark with him. God caused a wind to blow over the earth, and the waters subsided.

Both the fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain ceased to fall from heaven. The waters reverted from the earth continuously: and at the end of 150 days the waters were halted.

The ark rested on the mountains of Ararat on the seventeenth day of the seventh month. The waters continued to diminish until the tenth month. By the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains were visible.

At the end of forty days, Noah opened the window of the ark that he made and sent out a raven, which flew back and forth, until the waters were dried up on the earth.

He also sent out a dove from the ark, to see if the waters had decreased on the ground; but the dove found no place to rest the sole of her foot, so she returned to Noah and the ark. The water still covered the whole earth: so Noah reached out his hand, and took the dove, and pulled her back into the ark.

After another seven days Noah sent the dove out the window of the ark again. The dove returned to him in the evening; and, lo and behold, there was a freshly picked olive leaf in her mouth: by this Noah knew that the waters no longer covered the earth. Noah waited another seven days; and sent the dove out again; but she never returned to him again.

Daily Bible Reading:

Genesis 8:1-12

1 And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;

2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;

3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.

4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.

6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:

7 And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.

8 Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;

9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.

10 And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark;

11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.

12 And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.

Things to think about:

  • When did the flood rains subside from the earth?
  • What were some of the things Noah did to check to progress of the situation?
  • What were some of the signs that the flood waters had receded?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we study this passage we see that the rains were stopped and the water receded from the earth. We see that Noah and his family were given signs of life again on the earth. Help us to trust you no matter what we’re going through that You will see us though. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “The Flood” (Genesis 7:13-24)

Genesis 7The Flood

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Genesis 7:13-24.  Noah, and Shem, Ham, Japheth, the sons of Noah, Noah’s wife, and the wives of his three sons went with them, into the ark.

Along with them came every beast after his kind, all the cattle after their kind, every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort.

They all went into the ark with Noah, two by two, male and female, of all flesh that had the breath of life as God commanded him. The LORD shut the door of the ark so Noah, his family, and all the animals would be protected from the flood.

The flood rains fell for forty days on the earth; the flood waters increased daily, and the water became so dense it bare the weight of the ark, and the ark was lifted up above the earth and floated on top of the water.

The water became so deep on the earth that all the mountains were covered. The water was fifteen cubits or more deep.

Every living thing that was on the face of the earth was destroyed, including man, cattle, creeping things, and the fowl of the sky. Everything that had received the breath of life and everything that lived on dry land, died.

Noah and those who were in the ark with him were the only creatures who remained alive. The waters covered the earth for 150 days.

Water is a powerful force. If you’ve ever seen an area that has been flooded out, you know some of the devastation it can cause. We had a flood last year in our area. It was nothing like the flood of Noah’s day, but it caused so much damage. There were roads, bridges, and dams that were washed away. There were people who lost their homes. There were also some people who lost their lives in the flood. Even with all the devastation our state had it was nothing compared to the loss of this flood.

Surely, Noah and his family were grateful to God for sparing their lives, but they must have also been grieved by what was going on outside of the ark. They had no idea what the future held, but they trusted God to carry them through it all. The fact that God spared their lives and the lives of the animals in the ark showed that God had plans for the future.

Daily Bible Reading:

Genesis 7:13-24

13 In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;

14 They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort.

15 And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life.

16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.

17 And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.

18 And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters.

19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered.

20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.

21 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man:

22 All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died.

23 And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.

24 And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.

Things to think about:

  • Can you begin to comprehend the devastation of this flood?
  • How do you think Noah and his family felt?
  • Think about how this must have grieved God.

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this passage and learn about all the devastation of Noah’s day, it is hard for us to comprehend. Even though we have seen floods in our region of the world, it is nothing compared to the flood in Noah’s time. We can only imagine some of the emotions that Noah and his family felt during this time. Help us to know, in spite of this, that You love us and only want the best for our lives. Give us strength to face the trials that come our way. Help us to live for You no matter what the future holds. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
