All Nations Praise the LORD

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 116:10-19 and Psalm 117:1-2. The Psalmist proclaims he believed in God and His mercy and questions what he should give to the LORD for all of His benefits to him. He says he will take the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD. He declares he will pay his vows to God in the presence of his people. What can we give to the LORD for all the benefits He has given us?

Because of all the affliction and attacks from his enemies, the Psalmist had come to believe that all men were liars. Have you ever wondered if this was true? The Psalmist found out that there was one he could trust completely and that was the LORD. He declared he was a servant of the LORD.

I love verse fifteen which says, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.” Why do you think the Psalmist says this? Do you think the LORD looks forward to having His saints in heaven with Him?

The Psalmist says he will offer thanksgiving and praise the LORD in the midst of his people. I included Psalm 117 in this lesson as it is the shortest chapter with only two verses. Even though this chapter is short, the verses are powerful because the Psalmist cries out to all the nations to praise the LORD for His mercy and kindness. He also declares that the truth of the LORD endures forever.

Psalm 116:10-19

10 I believed, therefore have I spoken: I was greatly afflicted:
11 I said in my haste, All men are liars.
12 What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me?
13 I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD.
14 I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
16 O LORD, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.
18 I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people,
19 In the courts of the LORD’S house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the LORD.

Psalm 117:1-2

1 O praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.
2 For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture where the Psalmist reminds us to praise You and offer the sacrifice of thanksgiving to You for all Your benefits. You have blessed us in so many ways, but the best blessing of all was Your gift of salvation. Help us to be grateful and thankful for Your mercy and kindness to us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

The Book of Psalms: Part 4 Chapters 91-118 contains thirty-six Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day.
