Daily Bible Reading “The Earth Trembles at the Presence of the Lord” (Psalm 114:1-8)

The Earth Trembles at the Presence of the Lord

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 114:1-8. In Psalm 114 the Psalmist reminds us of God’s power and how He delivered the children of Israel out of Egypt (Exodus 6). From what has God delivered you? The Psalmist reminds us that the land of Judah was God’s sanctuary and Israel His dominion. He parted the sea and the Jordan River was driven back (Joshua 3).

God created the world and everything in it and the earth obeys His voice. Everything God created obeys His voice except for fallen man, to whom He gave a free will. How can we not choose to love, obey, honor, and serve Him? Do you find it hard to understand why some people would not choose a loving, caring God, but would rather live in sin?

He speaks and the earth trembles at His voice. He even caused water to flow from a rock creating a pool and a flowing fountain. Yet, some people find it hard to believe. Do you believe?

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 114:1-8

1 When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;
2 Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.
3 The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.
4 The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.
5 What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?
6 Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs?
7 Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;
8 Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.

Things to think about:

  • How does it make you feel when you look at God’s creation?
  • Have you considered the awesome power of God?
  • In what ways have you chosen to listen to God’s voice?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 114 where the Psalmist reminds us of Your awesome power. He reminds us that even the earth trembles at Your voice. We thank You for Your creation. Help us to listen for Your voice. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

About the book:

The Book of Psalms: Part 4 Chapters 91-118 by Deborah H. Bateman is the 29th book in the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Deborah divided The Book of Psalms into five books to make it easier to read and study. Each book contains approximately thirty chapters from the book of Psalms.

Psalm 119 has already been published in a book called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet.

The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

The Book of Psalms: Part 4 Chapters 91-118 contains thirty-six Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
