Daily Bible Reading “Praise the Name of the LORD” (Psalm 113:1-9)

Praise the Name of the LORD

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 113:1-9. The Psalmist starts Psalm 113 by giving a call to praise the LORD and bless His name from this time forth. He reminds us from the rising of the sun until its setting we are to praise the LORD. He is high and mighty. He is above all nations and His glory is above the heavens. He overlooks all things both in heaven and on the earth. He lifts up the poor and needy and allows them to sit with the princes of His people.

I love verse nine, which says, “He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.” I wish I would have known this verse when I was younger. It would’ve been a great promise for me to hold on to.

I went through a time in my life when I wasn’t able to have children. I had two miscarriages before finally having our two daughters. We were married over eight years when we had our first child. I am so thankful to God for His blessings on me and my husband to be able to have children and to be grandparents now. What can you praise God for in your life?

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 113:1-9

1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.
2 Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.
3 From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’S name is to be praised.
4 The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.
5 Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high,
6 Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!
7 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;
8 That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.
9 He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.

Things to think about:

  • When does this Scripture say we should praise the LORD?
  • Why should we praise the LORD?
  • What does this Scripture say God does for the poor and needy?
  • What does this Scripture say God does for the barren woman?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 113 where the Psalmist reminds us to praise You. We are reminded to praise You for who You are and for what You do for us. Help us to always be thankful and praise You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

by Deborah H. Bateman

About the book:

The Book of Psalms: Part 4 Chapters 91-118 by Deborah H. Bateman is the 29th book in the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Deborah divided The Book of Psalms into five books to make it easier to read and study. Each book contains approximately thirty chapters from the book of Psalms.

Psalm 119 will has already been published in a book called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet. The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

The Book of Psalms: Part 4 Chapters 91-118 contains thirty-six Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
