Daily Bible Reading “The Lord will Reign” (Psalm 110:1-7)

The Lord will Reign

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Psalm 110:1-7. Psalm 110 is a Psalm of David. David starts this chapter by saying, “The LORD (God) said unto my Lord (Jesus), Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.” When the word “LORD” in the Bible is all caps it is speaking of the LORD God. When only the “L” in the word “Lord” is capitalized in the Bible it is speaking of the Lord Jesus. David declares that God will send Jesus to Zion to rule the earth and His people will rule and reign with Him.

God anointed Jesus as the ultimate high priest after the order of Melchizedek, who was a priest and a king (this is also mentioned in Hebrews 5:6). In this Scripture, we are reminded that He will be victorious over His enemies and will bring judgment on the heathen.

The Lord (Jesus) is coming back to judge, rule, and reign over all the earth as a prophet, priest, the King of kings, and Lord of lords. Are you ready?

Daily Bible Reading:

Psalm 110:1-7

1 [[A Psalm of David.]] The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.
3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.
4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.
6 He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries.
7 He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.

Things to think about:

  • Where is Jesus now?
  • What is going to happen when Jesus returns?
  • As believers, how can we look forward to the return of the Lord Jesus?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Scripture in Psalm 110 where David reminds us that Jesus is sitting at Your right hand until the time comes for His return. We thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, into this world to die on the cross for our sins. Help us to look forward to His return, when He will rule and reign over all the earth. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

About the book:

The Book of Psalms: Part 4 Chapters 91-118 by Deborah H. Bateman is the 29th book in the Daily Bible Reading Series. The book of Psalms contains 150 chapters. Deborah divided The Book of Psalms into five books to make it easier to read and study. Each book contains approximately thirty chapters from the book of Psalms.

Psalm 119 has already been published in a book called: Psalm 119: Thy Word is a Lamp unto My Feet. The book of Psalms is one of Deborah’s favorite books of the Bible. It is a great book to read if you’re ever feeling down or need to renew your relationship with Christ. King David went through a lot of tough times in his lifetime, but he loved God and trusted God to protect him from his enemies.

The book of Psalms was written by various people. About half of it was attributed to King David, whether they were written by David or for David is questioned by some biblical scholars. Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

The Book of Psalms: Part 4 Chapters 91-118 contains thirty-six Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.
