Daily Bible Reading “Adam is Extradited” (Genesis 3:20-24)

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Genesis 3:20-24. In this passage we are reminded that Adam named his wife Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

We also learn that the LORD God made coats of skins for Adam and his wife, to clothe them, so they wouldn’t have to hide anymore because of being naked.

The LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil.” God was afraid that Adam would stretch out his hand, and eat from the tree of life as well, and live forever.

The LORD drove the man out of the Garden of Eden, to work the ground from where he was taken. Can you imagine how Adam felt to be removed from this beautiful garden that God had prepared for him?

Can you imagine how Eve felt? She may have thought this was all her fault. Have you ever felt like God was mad or upset with you because of something you did wrong?

Instead of the man overseeing the garden as originally planned, God placed Cherubims at the east of the Garden of Eden, and a blazing sword which turned in every direction, to guard the tree of life.

Like Adam and Eve were tempted to sin in the garden, we are all tempted to sin, but 1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us with every temptation there is a way for an escape, we just need to look for it.

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Reading and studying the Word of God will help us to be more aware of our sin. It will also help us to realize when temptation comes our way. If we listen, it can keep us from giving in to the temptations we face.

When Jesus was here on earth, He was tempted like we are, but He was perfect and didn’t give in to the temptation. (See Hebrews 4:14-16)

If we got what we truly deserved as punishment for our sins, it would be death, but we can have forgiveness through repentance and accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior as mentioned in Romans 6:23.

Let’s do away with the weights of sin that weigh us down, and run the race of life with patience and endurance looking to Jesus and God to give us strength and see us through to finish this race of life well. (See Hebrews 12:1-2)

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Genesis 3:20-24

20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

 

Things to think about:

  • What did Adam name his wife? Why?
  • What did God do about Adam and Eve’s nakedness?
  • Why did God drive Adam from the garden?
  • What did God put in the garden to protect it?
  • How can we win the race of life?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this lesson, we see more of the consequences that Adam and Eve experienced because of their disobedience and are humbled. Father, please forgive us of the times we have disobeyed You. Help us to always consider Your will for our lives. Thank You for Your Son, Jesus, who was tempted as we are, but didn’t sin. Help us to look for a way to escape when we are faced with temptation. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Some of the Psalms were written by Asaph and some say they were written for the sons of Korah and even Moses and Solomon were writers of the Psalms. The Psalms consists of poetry that was primarily meant to be used as songs of praise to the Lord.

This part of the book of Psalms contains fifteen of the Songs of degrees. They were the songs or chants that the people of Israel sang as they journeyed to Jerusalem. It also contains some of the Psalms of David.

The Book of Psalms: Part 5 Chapters 120-150 contains thirty-eight Daily Bible Reading Lessons. Each lesson contains a brief commentary by the author, the Daily Bible Reading Scriptures, a few questions for contemplation or discussion, and a prayer of the day. It is a great Bible study for individuals or group studies.

Daily Bible Reading “Consequences of Sin” (Genesis 3:9-19)

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Genesis 3:9-19. In this passage, we find that the LORD God was looking for Adam. He called Adam, and said to him, “Where are you?”

Adam replied, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid.”

God asked Adam, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree, that I commanded you not to eat?”

The man blamed the woman saying, “The woman that you provided for me gave me the fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

The LORD God questioned the woman, “What have you done?” The woman blamed the serpent saying, “The serpent enticed me, and I ate the fruit from the tree.”

The LORD God told the serpent, “Because you did this, you are cursed above all cattle, and all beast of the field. You will crawl on your belly and eat dust all the days of your life. I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it will bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

The LORD God told the woman, “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and conception; in sorrow you will birth children; and your desire will be to your husband, and he will rule over you.”

The LORD God spoke to Adam saying, “Because you have listened to your wife, and have eaten the fruit of the tree, which I commanded you not to eat: cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow you will eat of it all the days of your life. The land will produce thorns and thistles; and you will eat the herb of the field; through hard work and the sweat of your brow you will eat bread, until you return to the ground; for out of it you were taken: from dust you came, and to the earth you will return.”

Adam and the woman had sinned against God. God let them know that there are consequences when we are disobedient and sin against Him. These consequences not only affected them, but also still affect us today.

We are reminded in Romans 3:23-24, that we all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and the only redemption for our sins is through accepting Jesus Christ as Savior.

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Genesis 3:9-19

9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

 

Things to think about:

  • Why were Adam and his wife hiding from God?
  • Who did Adam blame for his disobedience?
  • Who did the woman blame for her disobedience?
  • What punishment did God give the serpent for his part in this sinful act?
  • What did God tell the woman the consequences would be for her disobedience?
  • What were the consequences given to Adam for his disobedience?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this passage we see that there are consequences for sin and disobedience to You. Thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, who came into this world and gave His life on the cross to redeem us from our sins. Help us to do Your will. Forgive us of all the times we have failed You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading “The Woman is Tempted” (Genesis 3:1-8)

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Genesis 3:1-8. In chapter 3 we see that Adam’s wife was confronted by the serpent, which was the craftiest of all the animals that God created.

The serpent questioned the woman saying, “Yea, hath God said, you shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” What kind of serpent is this that can talk?

The woman answered the serpent saying, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.”

The woman embellished the story a bit, because if you look back at Genesis 2:17-18, you’ll see that God told Adam not to eat it; He never said anything about touching it.

The serpent said to the woman, “You shall not surely die: God knows that in the day you eat of the fruit, your eyes will be opened, and you will be as gods, knowing good and evil.”

The serpent tempted the woman, denying what God said, and telling her that the fruit would make them wise. How many times does the enemy try to tempt us, in the same way he did the woman?

The woman saw that the fruit of the tree was pleasing to the eyes and looked like it would be good to eat. She also remembered that the serpent told her that eating the fruit of the tree would make her wise, so she took a piece of the fruit, and ate it. She also gave the fruit to her husband, who was with her; and he ate it as well.

Even though Adam knew what God had told him, he never spoke up or stopped the woman from listening to the serpent. He even participated in the act of disobedience. Did Adam do that because he didn’t want to embarrass the woman or what? What might have been the outcome if Adam would have spoken up and stopped the woman from sinning? Only the LORD knows.

The eyes of both the man and woman were opened, and they realized that they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together, and made aprons to cover themselves. Remember, back in Genesis 2:25, both the man and woman were naked, but they were not ashamed. But, now that they had disobeyed God they were ashamed of their nakedness.

Then, they heard the voice of the LORD God, who was walking in the garden in the cool of the day. Adam and his wife knew that they had disobeyed God’s command and were afraid, so they hid from God among the trees of the garden.

 

Daily Bible Reading:

Genesis 3:1-8

1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

 

Things to think about:

  • Why did the serpent try to tempt the woman?
  • With what did the serpent tempt the woman?
  • In what way did the woman change what God had said?
  • Why did the woman give into the temptation?
  • Why did Adam participate in the disobedience to God?
  • What did they do when they heard God walking in the garden?
  • How do we respond to God when we sin?

 

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read and study this portion of Scripture, help us to realize the tactics that the enemy uses to try to tempt us to sin.  Give us strength when facing the enemy so we don’t give in to his temptations. Thank You for Jesus who died on the cross to save us from our sins. Help us to always obey Your will. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
