Daily Bible Reading “Choose Joy” (Proverbs 15:23-33)

Joy-does-not-simply-happen-to-us-We-have-to-choose-joy-and-keep-choosing-it-every-dayChoose Joy

Today’s Daily Bible Reading is from Proverbs 15:23-33. In this Scripture, we are reminded that a person finds joy by the words of their mouth: and how good a word is that is spoken in due season!

The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.

The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant.

Those who are greedy of gain cause trouble to their own house; but the one who hate gifts will live.

The heart of the righteous studies to answer: but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.

The LORD is far from the wicked: but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

The light of the eyes rejoices the heart: and a good report makes the bones fat.

The ear that hears the reproof of life abides among the wise.

Those who refuse instruction despise their own soul: but those who listen reproof gain understanding.

The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and humility comes before honor.

“Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep on choosing it every day.” – Henry J. M. Nowen

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer (Psalm 19:14).

  • According to this Scripture how do we find joy?
  • How should we choose joy?
  • What other Scriptures in this passage stand out to you? Why?

Prayer of the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we read this Scripture in the book of Proverbs, we see that we have to make the right choices to have a happy, joyful life in Christ. Help us to choose joy in spite of our circumstances. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
